Mega Sableye, the improved form of the Gen 3 creature, has returned to Pokemon Go as a Mega Raid boss, so check out the best counters to target all its weaknesses during your encounter.
There are already plenty of Mega Evolutions available in Pokemon Go, including Mega Sableye. This Dark/Ghost-type creature arrived as part of the Dark Flames event in 2023 and now it’s back for the Max Out season.
To help you defeat Mega Sableye and Mega Evolve one of your own during the Halloween celebrations, we’ve put together a guide featuring details of its weaknesses and some of the best counters you can take to battle with you.
Mega Sableye weaknesses in Pokemon Go
Mega Sableye is a dual Dark/Ghost-type Pokemon which means its only weakness is Fairy-type attacks.
While this does make choosing a team fairly simple – as you only have one type to focus on – it might be a struggle if you don’t have any strong Fairy-type Pokemon.
On the other hand, Mega Sableye is resistant to Fighting, Normal, Poison, and Psychic-type moves, so avoid using those as they won’t deal much damage at all.
Mega Sableye best counters
Here are some of the best Pokemon and their top movesets to help you defeat Mega Sableye in the game:
POKEMON | SPRITE | BEST MOVESET |
---|---|---|
Mega Gardevoir | Charm & Dazzling Gleam | |
Mega Banette | Shadow Claw & Dazzling Gleam | |
Shadow Granbull | Charm & Play Rough | |
Shadow Ursaring | Shadow Claw & Play Rough | |
Zacian | Metal Claw & Play Rough | |
Xurkitree | Spark & Dazzling Gleam | |
Xerneas | Geomancy & Moonblast | |
Alakazam | Psycho Cut & Dazzling Gleam | |
Togekiss | Charm & Dazzling Gleam | |
Sylveon | Charm & Dazzling Gleam |
We’ve included a mix of Megas, Legendaries, Shadow, and more common Pokemon in the table above so there should be something for trainers of all levels.
Mega Gardevoir is arguably the best option listed above thanks to its power and ability to run two good Fairy-type moves. So, if you have access to this mighty creature, it would be perfect to use against Mega Sableye. Remember, it will also give an attack boost to your Fairy-type teammates which will make it even more effective in battle.
Other than Mega Gardevoir, it’s just a case of choosing your most powerful Fairy-type Pokemon and making sure they know Fairy-type attacks and are properly leveled up. If you’re lacking in Fairy types, your best option is to use your most powerful Pokemon while avoiding Mega Sableye’s resistances.

How to get Mega Sableye in Pokemon Go
Mega Sableye is being featured as a Mega Raid boss from October 14, 2024, until October 28, 2024. However, just like all Mega Evolutions in Pokemon Go, you can’t catch Mega Sableye in its Mega Evolved form.
Instead, you’ll need to defeat multiple Mega Sableye in Mega Raid Battles to catch its regular form. Then, stock up on the Mega Energy you’ll receive as a reward for doing so, and use it to temporarily Mega Evolve your favorite Sableye.
The first time you Mega Evolve Sableye into Mega Sableye, you’ll need 100 Mega Energy. Afterwards, the cost will drop to 20, 10, and eventually 5. Players can also gather Mega Energy by completing Special Research Tasks and by setting Sableye as their walking buddy.
Mega Sableye CP in Pokemon Go
As with every Raid Boss in the game, the CP Mega Sableye has during a Mega Raid battle won’t be the same once you manage to catch its regular form. Plus, certain types of weather can increase such CP.
Raid Boss CP | 23,935 |
CP range once captured | 1047 – 1110 |
Fog weather CP range | 1309 – 1387 |
Field and Special Research CP range | 785 – 832 |
Egg CP range | 1047 – 1110 |
Mega Sableye max CP (Level 50) | 2196 |
Can Mega Sableye be Shiny?
Yes, Mega Sableye can be Shiny in Pokemon Go, as this special variation was added to the game on the same day Mega Sableye debuted.
Players can recognize Shiny Mega Sableye thanks to its unusual mustard color and the fact that it changed the rubies in its eyes – as well as the one on its hands – for emeralds.
It’s worth noting, that the odds of finding a Shiny Pokemon are very low and there’s no special technique to ensure you’ll find one.
