The cute-looking Amaura is a Pokemon restored from a fossil that first appeared in Gen 6’s Kalos region and made it to Niantic’s mobile game in 2022 during the Adventure Week event, though it’s considered a rare spawn.
So, to help you catch the elusive Amaura and add the popular Pokemon to your collection, we’ve put together this guide explaining how to find it, if it can be shiny, and how to evolve it.
How to get Amaura in Pokemon Go
Currently, there are plenty of different ways to catch Amaura in Pokemon Go:
- As a wild encounter.
- As a hatch from a 10 km Egg.
- As a hatch from a 7 km Egg (during the Adventure Week 2024 event).
- As a reward for completing a Special Research Task (Adventure Week 2024 event).
Amaura will be featured in the upcoming Adventure Week 2024 event that will run from August 2, 2024, until August 12, 2024. During this time players will have the opportunity to spot Amaura in the wild or hatch it from 7 km Eggs, as well as having an increased chance to find its Shiny version.
Previously, players were able to hatch Amaura from 2 km Eggs, find it as a Tier 1 Raid Boss, and get it as a reward for completing other Research Tasks like “Catch 15 Rock-type Pokemon” or “Walk 2 km: Adventure Week 2023”.
Can Amaura be Shiny in Pokemon Go?
Yes, Amaura’s shiny form is available in Pokemon Go, having been first introduced during the 2023 Adventure Week event.

During this year’s event, Shiny Amaura will have increased spawn rates, as well as fellow fossils Cranidos, Shieldon, Tirtouga, Archen, and Tyrunt. Players can recognize it by its shiny white coloring.
How to evolve Amaura into Aurorus in Pokemon Go
As a two-member family, Amaura’s evolution is quite straightforward, as there’s only one step to get through it. However, there’s a tiny catch.
To evolve Amaura into Aurorus, you must feed it 50 Amaura Candy, however, for the evolution process to work it must be triggered during the night.
Even when its spawn rate is boosted by events, Amaura is fairly rare in Pokemon Go so make sure to use Pinap Berries before catching one to get double Candy. You can also set it as your Buddy to earn some additional Candy while walking or send your extra Amaura to Professor Willow.
