Where to find Coal
The best place to find Coal in Palworld is in Coal Nodes throughout the desert region which has been highlighted in the image below. Coincidently, this is also the best place to farm High-Quality Pal Oil which you’ll also need to craft powerful weapons and items including firearms.
Coal nodes can be distinguished by their black color and stand out prominently in the desert. (-158, -93) and (-98, -121) are the best coordinates to look for coal in the desert region marked on the map above.
Alongside the desert, Verdant Brook is another high-profile area where you can find coal in Palworld. (190, -41) and (291, -19) are the best coordinates in the Verdant Brook area for farming coal as you’ll find up to 8 nodes there.
How to get Coal
To get Coal in Palworld, you’ll need to farm the resource from Coal Nodes by using a Pickaxe. Any kind of Pickaxe will do but we’d recommend using a Metal Pickaxe in particular as it will make the job faster.

It’s fairly easy to craft a Metal Pickaxe in Palworld but you’ll need access to the High-Quality workbench, and 2 Technology Points to spare first. The crafting materials needed are as follows:
- Wood x20
- Stone x15
- Ingot x5
Before entering the desert we’d recommend equipping some heat-resistant armor to protect yourself from the harsh temperatures. We’d also advise dropping a Palbox near the Coal nodes you’re farming, as it will speed up the depositing process.
What is Coal used for in Palworld?
Coal’s primary purpose in Palworld is to craft Refined Ingots. These special ingots are a key ingredient for crafting guns including the Double-barreled Shotgun, Pump-action Shotgun, Assault Rifle, and Rocket Launcher.
To craft Refined Ingots, you’ll need to reach Technology Level 34 and unlock the schematic for an Improved Furnace. With one of these in your base, you can use one Coal and one Ore to create a Refined Ingot.
