Lúcio’s Speed Boost is really what sets him apart from every other support in the game, and recently Overwatch streamer and coach Spilo gave some tips on using the ability to it’s full potential.
Speed Boost allows Lúcio to give him team a significant movement speed increase, and even more of one when it’s combined with his Amp It Up ability.
This also makes Lúcio a near constant fixture in the GOATS meta, basically consisting of three tanks and three supports, because Speed Boost allows for hard and fast engagements with the enemy team while also providing the ability to disengage quickly.
Spilo explains that while most Lúcio players know to boost and Amp It Up out of spawn on King of the Hill maps, on Escort and Control maps though, going fast right out of spawn might not be the best strategy.

“If you amp speed from spawn, a lot of the time you won’t have amp when you get to the choke, when it’s important,” Spilo explained to viewers in the clip.
Instead, on maps where there’s usually a choke point the attacking team has to get through – such as Eichenwalde or Temple of Anubis – it’s better for players to use Speed Boost along with Amp It Up, to get their team quickly through the choke.
Given how often Lúcio is played at all levels of Overwatch, it will be interesting to see if more players adopt this strategy.
