Overwatch 2 players will never be able to unsee Tracer change from first game

An Overwatch 2 player has pointed out a massive unnoticed change in Tracer’s model from the first game to the sequel which has shocked the community with how uncanny it is.

In Overwatch, Tracer has two fully automatic pistols that she runs around with to burst enemies down. In her idle animation, while viewing skins in the client, she puts away those pistols in their holsters under her forearms.

In Overwatch 2, however, Tracer’s model does not have those bulky holsters sticking out from under her arms, but she still has the same holstering animation. So, when players look closely at the animation in OW2 they will see Tracer’s pistols morph into her arms and disappear.

In a post on Reddit about the subtle, but massive, animation change multiple players said they had never even noticed the holsters from the base game.

“Eight years playing this forsaken game and I just found that those things on Tracer’s arms are holsters for her guns,” one user exclaimed.

Some players put forth theories on how the lack of design continuity fell through the cracks between games, or if the team just “forgot” about the holsters.

“In all seriousness, they probably wanted to slim down the character design and chose to sacrifice that detail. Or they genuinely forgot about it. It’s a shame because I always thought they were cool,” one player said.

Others used the design flaw to call out Blizzard for its apparent laziness with hero designs in the second Overwatch installment.

“I’m kinda fine with random skins not accounting for it because at some point it might cause design issues or just be more difficult. But, the OW2 base skin not accounting for it is unacceptable. It’s like they were focused on making the design look new rather than make any sense,” another player said.

Regardless of why the animation is this way in Overwatch 2, it is hard to unsee once noticed.

Adding Tracer’s holsters back onto her model, and every skin available, in Overwatch 2 may be a tall task for Blizzard to fix the uncanny visual. However, the developer may be able to change the holstering animation to make it less jarring for players.
