A collegiate Overwatch 2 player was in danger of losing his scholarship after being banned by Blizzard for typing the word “dumpsyer” in chat.
Overwatch 2’s ban system has come under fire lately for handing out bans that don’t appear to be deserved, and a collegiate player is the latest to fall victim to these wild suspensions.
Just weeks after a player made headlines after being banned for typing “GG” in match chat, ‘S7VEN,’ a tank player for Blinn College, has been hit with an account ban for typing out the name of a teammate named “dumpsyer.”
In a post on X, S7VEN shared a conversation he had with Blizzard support Gamemaster Eldisana, where the employee said his two-week ban was justified. And, while Blizzard have since taken a new stance on things, the community is still reeling after seeing just how easy it was for a player to get banned over seemingly nothing.
Overwatch 2 player risks losing scholarship over ban
According to S7VEN, the ban occurred after he referenced his teammate, dumpster_ow, in team chat – something Blizzard took issue with.
“I just checked your issue thoroughly and this is a quote from your chat: ‘dumpsyer.’ We now consider this matter closed and would not look into further discussion on the subject,” the Blizzard staff member said during an appeal.
While calling a teammate a “dumpster” to insult their lack of skill might be frowned upon, “dumpsyer” isn’t even a real word, and the Blizzard employee refused to elaborate on the reason for the college student’s ban.
“Blizzard needs to fix their sh*t,” S7VEN urged. “Now I’m suspended from competing in collegiate and was at risk of losing my scholarship over the word ‘dumpsyer.’”

The player further noted that collegiate rules require players to compete on the accounts they signed up with, and that it must be in good standing with Blizzard – something his clearly isn’t given the suspended status.
The community, however, rallied behind S7VEN and is hoping to see the issue resolved while taking aim at Blizzard for how they handled the ban.
“No way bro said we checked it thoroughly then sends that with a straight face thinking it’s an actual reason to ban someone,” slammed Tracer player Rigsychu.
“Hopefully this gets reverted,” remarked YouTuber Samito, who reiterated that there is a streamer named Dumpster. “Seems like a really silly reason to suspend a player AND then by collateral lose scholarship?”
Fortunately, S7VEN has finally received a response from Blizzard and has had his account re-instated.
While it’s still unfortunate that his account was affected by the mix-up, his scholarship is safe and he can continue competing.
