Overwatch 2 director Aaron Keller has admitted the way in which Blizzard unveiled its Season 9 healing passive change was “a mistake”, claiming that this lone change is part of a much larger set.
Something new is stirring within Overwatch 2. With the removal of Bobby Kotick as CEO, plenty of devs have come forward to reveal the damage dealt by the previous leader. Now with a seemingly revitalized energy, the Overwatch team is looking to make massive shake-ups to the game, hoping to bring it back into the limelight like years prior.
Part of this revitalization comes in the form of large-scale changes that will arrive for the hero shooter in Season 9. As announced by Overwatch 2 Director Aaron Keller on Twitter, all heroes will be receiving a form of the support role passive, allowing them to regenerate health whilst outside of combat.
This news was pretty controversial, stirring up discussion within the community. Many players reacted with backlash, wondering what the need for the new passive was. This alongside other negative comments prompted Keller to come forward, admitting that the early announcement was “a mistake”.

According to Keller, the new self-healing passive is but one of many changes coming to the hero shooter when Season 9 rolls around.
What else this may entail is still up in the air, but the director did say that more details would be coming soon, and they’re looking forward to the discussion surrounding the updates.
“Sorry for that, and I look forward to more discussion around S9 balance changes when we drop more details.”
