FOX analyst Colin Cowherd said in a recent interview that USC’s Caleb Williams is the best college quarterback ever. He went on to explain his stance.

Caleb Williams is a former five-star recruit out of Washington, DC. He entered college football with a sparkling pedigree, garnering offers from powerhouse programs such as Oklahoma, Alabama, and Ohio State.

Williams chose the Sooners primarily due to the presence of then-Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley. The duo spent one season together in Norman before departing for the sunshine in California.

After Riley accepted USC’s head coaching position, Williams entered the transfer portal and became a Trojan. Williams blossomed into an exciting NFL prospect in two seasons on the West Coast, even winning the 2022 Heisman Trophy under Riley’s tutelage.

The star signal-caller is a fixture atop NFL mock drafts, and Colin Cowherd believes all the hype is warranted. In a radio appearance on ESPN’s Waddle and Silvy, Cowherd explained why Williams is so well-regarded by scouts and a favorite to become the top pick in April’s NFL Draft.

“I think he’s the best college football quarterback I’ve ever seen,” Cowherd said without pause. “I was an Andrew Luck sycophant, but Williams is significantly more mobile, and he’s got a better arm.”

“Every game was a track meet for USC. If you guys want a good look at Caleb Williams, watch the Arizona game,” Cowherd said while appearing on ESPN radio. “There’s a play near the goal line, and it just doesn’t make physical sense.”

“It’s [Patrick] Mahomes meets [Josh] Allen meets Lamar [Jackson]. There are three defenders; they’re all around him, and he gets into the end zone anyway. He’s just different,” the long-time analyst exclaimed.

The Bears currently sit atop the 2024 NFL Draft order and, thus, hold the future of Caleb Williams in their hands. Will the front office stick with current quarterback Justin Fields? Or is Williams’ upside too immense for Chicago to pass on?
