The Monster Hunter Now community feels Niantic is “punishing” them for choosing certain weapons, and feels they are being pushed into using Bow and Long Sword.

The Monster Hunter Now December patch brought with it a massive wave of weapon balance changes, which aimed to shake up the game’s meta. However, many players believe this patch has made a lot of weapons “unviable” and feel that they’re being actively “punished” for their weapon choice.

This has led to the community calling for Niantic to make further weapon adjustments to help shake up the Bow and Long Sword meta.

Monster Hunter Now community claim Niantic “punishes” players

“Monster Hunter Now seems to be the only [Monster Hunter game] that actively punishes players for choosing the wrong weapon,” said one player. “I want to love this game, I really do, and big slash still feels good to crit with using a Great Sword, but… am I missing something? Or is there really something that makes it to where it appears Niantic is juggling weapon metas back and forth?”

It’s because of this, that many Monster Hunter Now players often get drawn toward faster weapons and high-damage ranged attacks.

“Fully agree, the enemy in this game is the timer,” responded one Hunter. “Low mobility weapons are highly punished since they require position, timing, and patience, and the timer just keeps on ticking down.”

Thee Great Sword is one Monster Hunter Now weapon players believe still struggles.

One example that cropped up a lot was the fact that Light Bowgun has been nerfed, which has drastically set back a lot of players’ progress. It’s because of this that many Hunters believe they are being “punished” for choosing certain weapons.

“Well, I hope they figure their sh*t out because it felt good to have a weapon that could see me through the long run to have it nerfed twice since December,” explained one player. “I’ve switched mains since then because apparently the only way I’m supposed to take on harder changes in this game is to get used to close ranged.”

Despite the range nerfs, Bow remains at the top of the Monster Hunter Now meta, with Long Sword also rivaling it for the top spot. Well, it’s these past weapon adjustments that has Hunters hopeful that another balance patch will come out soon to help underperforming weapons.

“I was honestly pretty surprised when they did some weapon balance changes during December,” commented another player. “I really hope they do another one in the future, as some weapons are nearly unviable in comparison to other ones.”
