Marvel Rivals: All game modes explained

Marvel Rivals has a plethora of different game modes that players can jump into and here are the details for all of them.

Netease’s Marvel Rivals is overtaking Overwatch by bringing a roster of Marvel characters into a hero shooter setting. The 6v6 third-person shooter has teams battling it out across different game modes, and we’ve got a rundown of them all below.

While Season 0 was a massive success, players are eager to dive into Season 1, with new characters, maps and more included in the upcoming season.

In addition, the game is getting three new maps and a fresh mode, so here is everything you need to know.

All game modes

There are 4 core game modes in Marvel Rivals, so here’s a breakdown of each below:

Domination

Both teams fight to control a single point of an area on a small map. The team that captures the point must successfully hold it until it reaches 100%.

Once a point has been captured, you will be taken to another small map and the objective will be repeated. The first team to capture 2 points wins.

The maps featured in Domination are:

  • Royal Palace (Yggsgard)
  • Birnin T’Challa (Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda)
  • Hell’s Heaven (Hydra Charteris Base)

Convoy

Each team is randomly assigned offense or defense at the beginning of the match. The offense must escort a cart or moving object to the end of the map. The defending team must try to prevent the convoy from reaching its final destination.

The maps included in Convoy are:

  • Yggdrasill Path (Yggsgard)
  • Spider-Islands (Tokyo 2099)
  • Empire of Eternal Night: Midtown

Convergence

Teams are randomly assigned offense or defense at the start. The offense must attack the first checkpoint on the map and secure it by standing inside the area. Defenders have to stop any attackers from reaching the area.

The offensive team will win if they can successfully capture three checkpoints before time runs out.

The maps featured in Convergence are as follows:

  • Shin-Shibuya (Tokyo 2099)
  • Hall of Djalia (Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda)
  • Klyntar: Symbiotic Surface

Doom Match

The newest game mode to be added to Marvel Rivals as part of Season 1 is Doom Match, wherein players will be assigned a different faction and battle to defeat players from the opposing faction.

At the end of the match, the top 50% of players will be awarded the win regardless of which faction they are assigned.
