How War Room works in MTG

War Room is a land that can be tapped for a colorless mana. It also has a secondary effect wherein players may pay 3 generic mana, and also pay life equal to the number of colors in their Commander’s color identity. They may then draw a card.

Having access to reliable draw on a land is a great boon for Universes Beyond: Fallout players. However, as each of the decks comes with a Commander utilizing three colors of mana, the additional life cost may be somewhat steep. As a result, War Room may work best when splashed into other Commander decks outside of Universes Beyond: Fallout.

Some decks have mana in abundance but precious little draw power, and that’s where War Room will be suited best. Its colorless mana will work well in the early game and to pay additional late-game costs, but the longer a match goes on for, the more appeal its reliable draw power will be.

While MTG fans have been somewhat put off by the seemingly incessant rate of card spoilers recently, this one really can’t be laid at Wizards of the Coast’s feet. Thankfully, only one card from Universes Beyond: Fallout has leaked ahead of time, and players have plenty of time to prepare for the set’s full launch on March 8.
