MTG Most Expensive Tamiyo PlaneswalkerWotC

From overwhelmingly powerful Eldrazi Creatures to overlooked combo pieces, Modern Horizons 3 is packed full of cards that threaten to leave previous Magic: The Gathering sets in the dust.

Horizons sets are infamous at this point for including absolute bombs that can eclipse formats’ prior power levels. Though ostensibly designed around the Modern format, Modern Horizons 3 has plenty of power on offer to be used in Commander, Pauper, and other fan-favorite formats.

Naturally, Modern Horizons 3 has attracted a lot of fan attention, and the set’s most interesting cards are already skyrocketing in price. We’ve collected the most expensive cards in all of Modern Horizons 3, so you can see for yourself what the best finds are before cracking any packs.

Most Expensive MTG Modern Horizons 3 cards

#1: Tranquil Landscape (Ripple Foil)

Modern Horizons 3 TranquilWotC

In a surprising shake-up, the most expensive card in Modern Horizons 3 isn’t an overpowered Commander option like Nadu, Winged Wisdom, or rare Artifact like Outlaws of Thunder Junction’s Sword of Wealth and Power. Instead, MH3’s top spot has been claimed by a Land card.

Tranquil Landscape has a few abilities that set it apart from being a basic land. By default, it can tap for a colorless mana, but it can also be tapped and sacrificed to search for and play one of three basic Land types. Finally, Cycling allows for useful card draw when extra mana generation isn’t strictly needed.

Tranquil Landscape is a fairly flexible Land, but it’s the rare Ripple Foil treatment that is really making waves. Introduced in Modern Horizons 3, Ripple Foil proves that new forms of Foils will always fetch a high price.

Price: $99.99

#2: Twisted Landscape (Ripple Foil)

A counterpart to Tranquil Landscape that taps for black, red, and green instead of green, white, and blue. Aside from its mana production and Cycling cost, Twisted Landscape fills the same role as Tranquil.

Though its price is slightly lower, Twisted Landscape confirms that the Ripple Foil treatment is an exciting new part of Modern Horizons 3 for many players.

#3: Ulamog, the Defiler (Borderless)

Modern Horizons 3’s Eldrazi have proven to be the beating heart of the set, with the level of hype around the archetype meaning that the Eldrazi Incursion Commander pre-con is selling for hugely inflated prices.

Outside of the set’s Commander deck, the Eldrazi are still on fine form in Modern Horizons 3, with Ulamog, the Defiler chief among them. While some new variants of the Eldrazi titans are less powerful than their original counterparts, Ulamog has only received a power boost, coming with an absolutely devastating Annihilator ability

This borderless variant of Ulamog draws on original Eldrazi concept art to make it stand out even from the rest of MH3’s inventive Eldrazi designs.

Price: $87.90

#4: Tamiyo, Inquisitive Student (Borderless, Textured Foil)

Modern Horizons 3’s Flip-walkers have breathed new life into an old card cycle, and Tamiyo stands among the very best. While others like Sorin and Ral focus more on combat boosts, Tamiyo helps speed up your deck and pull out your best options.

Generating a huge amount of card draw along with an eventual boost to mana production and recursion, Tamiyo truly stands out in an era of MTG that has been less focused on Planeswalkers as a whole

The Borderless, Textured Foil variant provides the most worth for collectors, and with flip-walkers coming along so rarely in Magic, Tamiyo and her fellows are well worth holding onto.

Price: $77.99

#5: Emrakul, the World Anew (Foil Etched)

Modern Horizons 3 Emrakul etchedWotC

Among MTG’s most memorable threats, Emrakul’s return was always going to lead to a huge amount of interest from MTG players. Even in a set that doesn’t continue Magic’s main storyline, seeing the last remaining titan return is cause for celebration.

Foregoing The Aeons Torns’ Annihilator and extra turn effects, this new Emrakul iterates further on The Promised End’s permanent theft, and remains a devastating, heavily protected threat.

The World Anew is fetching a high price in every variant, but this Foil Etched edition is especially valuable. While it features the regular Emrakul art and not the borderless variant, this foil etching still ranks as the priciest among The World Anew’s copies.

Price: $76.91

Modern Horizons 3 was very nearly even more impactful thanks to discussions around breaking the Reserve List. For players who are looking for an MTG product outside of MH3, this summer Secret Lair has incredible art by a legendary fantasy artist.
