There are a tonne of characters available in Riot Game’s wildly popular MOBA League of Legends. With over 160 champions to pick and choose from, there’s a playstyle for absolutely everyone.
However, not all champions are built equally, with a meta that’s constantly shifting due to the various patches Riot releases, there are bound to be champions that thrive more, while others struggle.

Our tiers explained
Here is a short-hand for how each tier breaksdown:
- S: The best champions in their role
- A: Champions that are still strong, but not the best
- B: Champions that are viable in their role, but require more effort to pull off
- C: Champions that are not recommended and are in need of buffs before being viable
Like in most MOBAs, plenty of champions in League of Legends can be flexed around to different roles. However, we’ve ranked the champions based on how strong they are in their primary role at the moment. Of course, some champions are strong in several roles at once, which we’ve reflected by bumping them up in the tier list.
S Tier Top Lane Champions
Aatrox
Aatrox is a fantastic example of a carry top laner. With immense amounts of damage and healing, he’s capable of stomping top lane and then becoming an unstoppable bruiser in the late game. His healing from landing sweet spot Q’s allows him to survive while dealing significant damage. Additionally, his ultimate resets allow him to continue getting takedown after takedown, making him a great option for all stages of the game.
Camille
Hypermobile Camille is another great top lane option at the moment. While her early game isn’t quite as powerful, her capacity to carry late game is immense. Her Q deals ridiculous amounts of true damage, her E allows her to traverse the map ridiculously well, and her split push capabilities are almost outmatched.
If you’re looking for someone to carry you and your team in the late game, Camille is one of the best options at the moment.
Garen
Garen is the easiest top laner to play in all of League of Legends. With in-built resistances, no skillshots, and a fantastic health regen passive, he’s one of the simplest characters to pick up and play at any moment. That being said, he’s incredibly powerful at the moment with items like Stridebreaker and Phantom Dancer.
With an easy kit that’s hard to mess up, Garen is a fantastic option for climbing at the moment.
Sett
Like Garen, Sett is one of the easier S-tier top laners to pilot. His kit is relatively simple, a powerful juggernaut who fights incredibly well up close, is great in lane, and scales well into the late game thanks to his W and his ultimate.
Sett’s also able to split push well thanks to Hullbreaker, which gives him enough flexibility to be an S tier champion.
S Tier Jungle Champions
Shyvana
Shyvana is currently one of the strongest junglers in the game. Her ability to farm up and clear camps quickly allows her to become insanely powerful in the mid to late game, with both AD and AP scalings letting her have the best of both worlds when it comes to items.
It’s been quite some time since we’ve seen Shyvana be a relevant champion in League of Legends, so her spot at the top might not stay.
S Tier Mid Lane Champions
Ahri
Ahri is almost always going to be a good pick for solo queue in League of Legends. Her wave clear, Charm and mobility make her the perfect champion for picking off enemies who are out of position. Not only can she dive in, but she can use her ultimate to get out of sticky situations, letting you pick and choose when you want to take skirmishes.
On top of that, her damage is nothing to laugh at too, with a well-built Ahri able to one hundred to zero a carry in the late game.
S Tier Bottom Lane Champions
Caitlyn
Caitlyn is a great champion for anyone who likes to deal high amounts of burst damage. Her traps with her Piltover Peacemaker let her deal ridiculous levels of burst, and her range allows her to bully out other AD carries in the early game.
Despite a less powerful mid-game, she spikes once more in the late game, with her Headshots becoming deadly enough to take down anyone.
Ezreal
Ezreal is a fan favorite of most League of Legends players. His mobility, poke, and damage are all fantastic but he hosts a wealth of skillshots that make him exceptionally difficult to play. Mastering him, however, is incredibly rewarding.
A good Ezreal can dip in and out of fights, poke champions out, and even take enemies down before a real teamfight even starts. Of course, he takes quite a bit of time to learn and pick up, but he’s well worth the investment.
Jinx
Jinx comes and goes as one of the most powerful ADCs in all of League of Legends. Depending on the meta, she’s able to completely take over games and teamfights with her resets, obliterating enemy teams from long-range with AOE rockets.
Jinx is benefitting from how strong ADC items are at the moment, and can easily carry games if given the opportunity. While she doesn’t have the mobility that other champions on this list have, she makes up for it with raw firepower.
Kai’Sa
Kai’Sa is easily one of the best ADCs for carrying games in League of Legends. Her kit is insanely overloaded, with invis, attack speed steroids, burst, on-hit, and much more. This is particularly potent for players who can abuse all of her many mechanics. Kai’Sa is also capable of dealing mixed damage with both magic and physical damage in her kit, making it harder for enemies to build against.
While she can be quite difficult to pick up and play, she’s a worthwhile investment who consistently stays near the top of the power boards in League of Legends.
S Tier Support Champions
Leona
Leona is one of the tankiest supports in all of the MOBA. Her ability to engage and lock down an enemy is nearly unmatched, and her toughness allows her to stay in fights for extended periods of time.
With short cooldowns on her Q and E, she can constantly look for engages in the bot lane and get her ADC ahead.
Thresh
The playmaker of supports. If there’s any champion that rewards skillful play it’s Thresh. His versatile kit allows you to engage, peel, gank, and much more, giving him a tonne of potential in the hands of veteran Thresh players. Regardless of what meta may suit him, he remains a reliable pick that can easily win you bot lane with the right micro plays.
