Cloud9 win LCS Spring 2023: Final placements and recap

Riot Games

The LCS Spring Finals Weekend has concluded, and Cloud9 are the back-to-back winners of the LCS title. Though Golden Guardians had a historic run that made for the best showing in the organization’s history, they weren’t able to take down the reigning champs.

The LCS Spring split has come to an end. Cloud9 bested Golden Guardians, only dropping a single game in their best of 5 set. The finals took place at the PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina, and both teams competing in the Grand Finals have qualified for MSI. Though Golden Guardians lost, it’s hard to be disappointed about their performance overall after their 3-2 win over FlyQuest in the lower bracket finals.

FlyQuest, who were no match for Cloud9 in the upper bracket final, made a roster change before the trip to Raleigh, bringing in Challengers support Kim ‘Winsome Dong-keon to replace Bill ‘Eyla’ Nguyen. Unfortunately, their last minute substitution didn’t pay off, and the heavily favored LCS team won’t be going to MSI.

LCS Spring 2023: Teams & players

There were quick a few interesting storylines to keep track of during the off-season as most LCS teams overhauled their rosters ahead of the 2023 season. Team Liquid’s acquisition of 2022 Worlds winner Hong ‘Pyosik’ Chang-hyeon to finalise a Korean-speaking roster and 100 Thieves’ signing of veterans Søren ‘Bjergsen’ Bjerg and Yiliang ‘Doublelift’ Peng were among the most discussed moves during the off-season.

Meanwhile, FlyQuest have put together one of the most ambitious rosters in the organization’s history, while Evil Geniuses and Cloud9 have held on to the majority of the lineup with which they won last year’s Spring and Summer titles, respectively.
