Shenhe was originally datamined in Genshin Impact before the Inazuma update, but then almost all traces of her were removed from the in-game code. However, after the 2.2 update, those traces returned in abundance.
Now, MiHoYo has officially unveiled Shenhe, with a first look at the upcoming character. Here’s what we know about Shenhe so far, including her rumored release date and abilities.

Shenhe release date in Genshin Impact
Developer miHoYo has finally confirmed that Shenhe will be coming as part of the Genshin Impact update 2.4 update on January 5, 2022. The confirmation came as part of a PlayStation Blog post published December 26.
The post reads, “As New Year is also approaching in the world of Teyvat, we’d like to invite you to Liyue’s Lantern Rite. Join Shenhe, Yun Jin, and our old friends in rebuilding the Jade Chamber, and gain rich rewards including 10 Intertwined Fates and a free four-star Liyue character of your choice.”

Shenhe’s banner will be drop during the first stage of the Event Wish cycle, as part of the “Transcendent One” and “Invitation to Mundane life” quests, but at a higher rate.
Shenhe abilities in Genshin Impact
Shenhe has been confirmed as a Cryo character, unleashing Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst on her foes. Both abilities appear to cover the target area in Cryo, which will be great for any players looking to apply Freeze to large amounts of enemies.
Elemental Skill: Spring Spirit Summoning
Shenhe’s Elemental Skill is called Spring Spirit Summoning and casting it with buff allies with the Icy Quill effect as well as damage opponents. This will help Shenhe function as a solo character, but it looks like her true value will be as a team player.
Elemental Burst: Divine Maiden’s Deliverance
Her Elemental Burst is known as Divine Maiden’s Deliverance. This conjures a Talisman Spirit that deals periodic Cryo damage to nearby enemies as well as chipping away at their Cryo resistance with subsequent attacks.
This will be an excellent way to grind down tough opponents, especially those weak against Cryo damage.

Shenhe weapon in Genshin Impact
Shenhe will be a polearm character, so get ready to swing for the fences and damage enemies from a safe distance!

Original reports suggested Shenhe would be a claymore wielder, but the official update from the devs finally clarifies that this is not the case.

There’s a lot of crumbs about who Shenhe is in Genshin Impact. Most Liyue characters have voice lines pertaining to her.

Xingqiu described Shenhe as “fierce” while Ganyu says she’s “ferocious”. She has ties to the Cloud Retainer, with Ganyu alluding to it, but whether she’s actually a human form of the Adeptus remains to be seen.
