The 2024 Xbox Games Showcase and Call of Duty Direct took place on June 9 at 1 pm ET, revealing and detailing new titles and updates from Microsoft’s many studios and third-party partners.
Back in February, Xbox’s President of Gaming Content and Studios, Matt Booty, announced a summer showcase. The executive shared the news on the Official Xbox Podcast, promising players they’ll get a closer look at upcoming releases like Avowed.
Here’s everything Microsoft revealed during the latest Xbox Games Showcase, including trailers for the announcements.
Call of Duty Black Ops 6
The next CoD got a deeper dive in a dedicated Direct held after after the main show, but the Xbox Showcase started with a gameplay reveal trailer for Black Ops 6. This includes the announcement that Gulf War-era game is up for preorder and will be available day one on Game Pass.
Doom: The Dark Ages – 2025
The next game announced was Doom: The Dark Ages. As the title suggests, this next entry in the long-running appears to take a medieval approach to the long-running FPS series, showing the Doom Slayer flying around on a dragon. It seems to mix modern and medical weaponry, with players using guns along with spiked ball chains and shields
State of Decay 3
The showcase also provided a look at State of Decay 3, the next title in the zombie survival series. The open-world game’s trailer focuses on four player characters to highlight the game’s cooperative gameplay and shows that State of Decay 3 is about both fighting for survival and creating a community.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard – Fall 2024
The recently renamed Dragon Age: The Veilguard received a new trailer that shows off the game’s seven new companions and their various skills. It also ended with a first look at a character who seems to be the game’s new protagonist, though in true Dragon Age fashion, they are left vague since players can customize their character.
Starfield: Shattered Space expansion & content update – 2024
Bethesda revealed the first look at the Shattered Space expansion for Starfield. In it, players will visit Dazra, a city on the hidden homeworld of House Va’Ruun, which fans will recognize as one of the galaxy’s religions. The expansion looks spookier than players expected, boasting some colorful and ominous environments and likely giving us more insight on the Great Serpent that House Va’runn worships.
Additionally, Bethesda announced a Starfield update coming later on June 9 with additional content. This includes new locations and the long-awaited Creation Kit.
Fallout 76: Skyline Valley – June 12, 2024
Bethesda also shared info on the next expansion for Fallout 76, the Appalachian set Skyline Valley. The new map centers on a mysterious electric storm and adds a new type of Ghoul called The Lost. The update will release on June 12, 2024.
It also announced an update for early 2025 that will allow players to play as a Ghoul.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 – 2025
A world premiere announcement, Expedition 33 is a fantasy RPG where players must go on a quest to take down the Paintress before she can destroy the rest of humanit. This debut game by Sandfall Interactive will be available day one on Game Pass.
South of Midnight – 2025
The Xbox Showcase also provided a first look at South of Midnight‘s gameplay, including some action-packed combat. The protagonist is seen defeating enemies and traversing the world with the help of a glider. It will be available day one on Game Pass.
World of Warcraft: The War Within – August 26, 2024
The beloved MMORPG detailed its next expansion, titled The War Within, said to be the “dawn of a new saga.” The trailer is narrated by antagonist Xal’atath, who has been absent since the Battle for Azeroth expansion. The declaration that “the final battle draws near” has some fans wondering if this will be a Destiny 2: The Final Shape-style story conclusion.
The War Within will release on August 26, 2024.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
Konami showed off Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, the remake of 2004’s Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. The game looks to deliver the story and gameplay of the original with visual and audio improvements, making Naked Snake’s story more immersive than ever.
Sea of Thieves Season 13- July 25, 2024
Xbox announced the next Sea of Thieves season, which will allow players to become villains on the high seas. The Season 13 update will release on July 25, 2024.
Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn – July 18, 2024
Flintlock is an upcoming indie Souls-lite coming later this summer. It’s an open-world action-RPG in which the dead have escaped into the world of the living, forcing humanity to fight to take the world back from the undead.
Age of Mythology: Retold – September 4, 2024
The developers behind Age of Empires have announced a mythology-based RTS game called Age of Mythology: Retold, which looks to be a remake of the 2002 title that features gods, monsters, and humans. It will release on September 4 and be available day one on Game Pass.
Perfect Dark
The Showcase provided the first look at Perfect Dark since the reboot was announced back in 2020, showing off its gameplay. It follows Joanna Dark as she hunts down criminal Daniel Carrington in a world on the verge of collapse using guns, stealth, and parkour.
Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred cinematic – October 8, 2024
Blizzard revealed the terrifying cinematic for Diablo 4’s upcoming expansion, Vessel of Hatred. This shows the character Neyrelle dealing with the consequences of her decision regarding the Prime Evil Mephisto, being subjected to a horrifying vision and breaking out to continue her quest. The update will release on October 8, 2024, just in time for the Halloween season.

Fable – 2025
Xbox shared a new trailer for the upcoming Fable reboot, which features the playful tone fans expect from the medieval RPG series. The Fable trailer was narrated by Humphry, a former hero telling the story of a female warrior he trained who went evil to a new pupil who is helping to track her down. It provides a glimpse of magic and melee combat, as well as a pretty good hint of what the story will involve.
It also announced a 2025 release window for the long-awaited game, which was announced back in Xbox’s July 2020 showcase.
FragPunk – 2025
The showcase included the world premiere of 5v5 hero shooter Fragpunk, which will release next year. What sets FragPunk apart are the power-up cards that change the rules of combat as the game goes on. In addition to the hero, weapon, and loadout choices players expect from the genre, you’ll also have to choose cards to get the upper hand.
Winter Burrow – Early 2025
Winter Burrow follows a mouse trying to restore their broken-down childhood home and survive a harsh winter. It will be available day one on Game Pass when it releases early next year.
Mixtape – 2025
The next game from the developers of 2021’s The Artful Escape, Mixtape puts players into the shoes of teenagers going on one last adventure before high school graduation. As they head to their destination, the group listens to a playlist – which includes songs from artist like Smashing Pumpkins and Iggy Pop – that has them reminiscing on formative memories that cover the highs and lows of adolescence.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 – November 19, 2024
Xbox gave a look at the next Microsoft Flight Simulator, which will release this November. The game is set to use the latest technologies to improve the overall gameplay experience, making the simulation more realistic than ever before.
The Elder Scrolls Online: Gold Road – June 18, 2024
Bethesda announced plans for The Elder Scrolls Online’s 10th anniversary. In addition to making all DLC free temporarily, there’s a new expansion coming on June 18 called Gold Road.
Life Is Strange: Double Exposure – October 29, 2024
Square Enix announced the next Life Is Strange game, Double Exposure. The latest in this popular adventure series that follows various young people with mysterious supernatural abilities brings back Max Caulfield, the protagonist from the first game. After finding her friend Safi murdered, Max is able to see and hear her recently deceased friend is the only one who can travel between parallel worlds to save her.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle – 2024
Bethesda gave fans a new look at its upcoming Indiana Jones game, including cinematics and a bit of gameplay. The five-and-a-half-minute-long trailer shows Indiana Jones and journalist Gina making a discovery in the Himalayas during an adventure set between Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade.
No specific release date was announced, but Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will release in 2024.
Mecha BREAK -2025
The showcase announced a new action-packed mech game called MechaBreak, which allows players to customize and fight with various mechs. It will release in 2025, with a beta coming in August 2024.
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers – 2025
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers received a new trailer showing off action-packed Soulslike gameplay. The game is set in Ming Dynasty China and features a protagonist battling strange supernatural forces. It will release in 2025.
Avowed – 2024
Xbox revealed a new story trailer for Avowed, the RPG from Obsidian releasing later this year. The trailer shows the protagonist trying to uncover the source of the Dream Scourge to protect the land and their own soul. It also emphasizes the player’s ability to choose sides and forge their own destiny, which should excite fans of past Obsidian games like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 and Fallout: New Vegas.
Atomfall – 2025
This survival action game takes place in a post-nuclear disaster Britain. Atomfall players will need to explore, craft, barter, and fight through the British countryside looking for answers in this upcoming title from the developers behind Sniper Elite and Zombie Army based on an actual nuclear disaster in northern England that took place in 1957.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows – November 15, 2024
Ubisoft revealed a new trailer for Assassin’s Creed Shadows that shows protagonists Yasuke and Naoe in action for the first time. The devs also announced a gameplay walkthrough that will premiere during the Ubisoft Forward on June 10.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl – September 5, 2024
The showcase featured a new trailer for STALKER 2 from Ukrainian developer GSC Game World, as well as a release date for the long-delayed game. This trailer shows off the vast open world of the Zone and action-packed gameplay that has players using a variety of weapons to take out foes. STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl will release on September 5, 2024.
New Xbox Series X|S consoles – Holiday 2024
Microsoft has announced three new models of the Xbox Series X and Series S revealing this year that expand the color and storage options available. First, Xbox is releasing an all-digital Xbox Series X in Robot White. There will also be an Xbox Series S – 1TB in the same color. Finally, Microsoft will release an Xbox Series X – 2TB model in Galaxy Black.
No specific release date was given, but they will release this holiday season.
Gears of War: E-Day
The final world premiere of the Showcase ahead of the CoD Direct is Gears of War E-Day, the long-awaited next entry in the third-person shooter series. This is a prequel set during Emergence Day, an important time in Gears lore that took place 14 years before the original game. No release date or window was announced for the game.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Direct
Following the Xbox Games Showcase, Activision is giving fans a deep dive into Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. This Direct details the game’s story, as well as the new Omnimovement mechanic, changes to Prestige mode, and much more.
