As fans descend upon Diablo 2 Resurrected, Diablo 4 remains in the shadows save for the snippets of information we get during the Quarterly Updates. Here’s everything you need to know about when the next one is.
As the hype continues to grow around Blizzard’s remaster of the iconic Diablo 2, the series’ next adventure, Diablo 4, remains somewhat shrouded in shadow.
While a recent leak implied that some form of alpha access for the elusive title may be coming to PlayStation relatively soon, all of our information comes from the devs Quarterly Updates, the last of which was BlizzConline back in late February.
So, in order to keep you up to date with all things Diablo 4, we’ll be tracking the new Quarterly Update and making sure you get all of the latest information.
When is the next Diablo 4 Quarterly Update?
The clue is in the name when it comes to Quarterly Updates – one drops every quarter of the year, so:
- February
- June
- September
- December
June’s Quarterly Update dropped on June 30, therefore we can expect September’s to drop during the last week of the month.
Diablo 4 June Update: Character Customization
As anticipated, June 2021’s update delved into the artistic side of the game, specifically in terms of character creation and customization. Writing that “we didn’t want the characters to feel procedural or generic,” Diablo IV will offer players a wide range of options for their character.
While Diablo III allowed players to change a character’s gender, and items could be transmogged to change their looks, Diablo IV will let you tailor everything about your character to make them uniquely yours. The dye pool has been expanded, and the overall feel of materials like blood, fur and metal is by far more realistic.
Additionally, this update reveals that every trailer we’ve seen so far, including the BlizzConline Rogue Trailer, were filmed in the game’s engine. Therefore, the level of detail that we’ve seen in the cinematics will translate directly across to the game itself.
Diablo 4 June Update: New enemies
Not only did we catch a glimpse into the look and feel of the game’s heroes, but we also received a look into the creation of the title’s terrifying new enemies.
The Blood Bishop is the first on the list. Aiming to create an AoE caster that deals both bomb-style and direct damage, the Bishop is a pretty gruesome sight. With the central focus of vampirism and blood, his body undulates just as a heart would beat, with the veins and flesh moving as one. All in all, he’s a terrifying sight.

From here we see a more familiar face: the Skeleton Lord. While we’ve seen skeletal enemies grace games since the dawn of time, this creature is quintessentially Diablo. With interlocking bones and a gigantic staff, this nightmare will be able to summon skeletons, create walls and slam that huge staff down on your unsuspecting head.
Arachnophobes better look away now, because this next eight-legged enemy is equal parts horrifying and disgusting. Based upon the idea of a spider spawning babies using a bloated, undead corpse, this currently unnamed creature will literally haunt every one of your dreams.
Last on this list of terrors is the Succubus. While we’ve seen these winged creatures make an appearance in Diablo titles before, they’ve received quite the upgrade. With beautiful detail in their bat-like wings, alongside intricate carvings in their armor, the Succubus looks better than ever – but don’t let them lure you in!
