Insomniac Games’ new Spider-Man: Miles Morales title nearly in players’ hands. Here is everything we know about the PS5 launch title.
Spider-Man made its web-slinging debut on the PlayStation 4 in 2018. The comic book hero title was met with universal praise from critics and fans, and became a major success story for Sony.
Fans eager to dawn the red mask again don’t have to wait long as developer Insomniac Games announced that a sequel will launch with the PS5. Here is what you need to know about Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
PlayStation 5 trailer
Sony officially unveiled the PlayStation 5 on June 11. Not only did the Japanese developer reveal hundreds of upcoming titles, but the console itself was also finally shown off in all of its glory. While no price or release date has been solidified, the device will go on sale this Holiday.
Standalone game
Initially, there was confusion as to whether Spider-Man: Miles Morales was a full-blown sequel. However, the developer themselves cleared up the confusion on Twitter, stating it is in fact a standalone game.
Industry veteran Jason Schreier clarified further and claimed the release will be similar to 2017’s Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. The title was a standalone story from UC4, and was about eight hours in length. Perhaps Miles Morales will have a greater emphasis on side quests.
NEWS: Spider-Man Miles Morales is *not* an expansion or enhancement or remaster, despite a Sony executive's comments this morning, a source tells Bloomberg News. Nor is it Spider-Man 2. It is a brand-new, standalone game similar in scope to Uncharted Lost Legacy.

Release date
With the PS5 dropping on November 12, Spider-Man: Miles Morales follows as a launch title. Players will soon be able to experience the fantastic visuals and writing that Insomniac has in store for us all!
Insomniac’s official landing page for the sequel states that “a war for control of Marvel’s New York has broken out between a devious energy corporation and a high-tech criminal army. With his new home at the heart of the battle, Miles must learn the cost of becoming a hero and decide what he must sacrifice for the greater good.”
As we can see, corporate conglomerates trying to take over New York is rife in Insomniac’s successor to their first iteration. Here, we’re familiarized with Miles and his hometown of Harlem, as players are free to navigate a beautifully snowy city. Much of the game will see Miles facing off against the Roxxon corporation’s security personnel.

Miles’ abilities
Insomniac shared two of Morales’ new abilities on November 7, 2020. Bio-electric and stealth camouflage abilities place a higher emphasis on crowd-control, stealth, and area of effect, compared to Peter Parker’s brawler-centric playstyle. It’ll be interesting to utilize these in a familiar environment and see how Miles’ powers differentiate.

The popular character also starred in the Academy Award-winning picture Into the Spider-Verse, which debuted in 2018. The film was a massive hit for Sony Pictures, so perhaps the PS5 title will take influence from it.
