Warframe player spends thousands of dollars on item that became available via Baro

Enemies on patrol in WarframeDigital Extremes

Warframe has relatively complex economic systems, but it does allow purchases with real-world money. One player took that opportunity to the extreme and paid an even heavier price for his troubles.

For those who don’t know, there are multiple different types of currency in Warframe. Credits are the most universal, able to be earned by participating in nearly any activity in the game and spent on many of the game’s items, mods and blueprints.

On the flip side is Platinum. As the game’s premium currency, Platinum can be purchased for real-world money and spent on many of the same items that can be purchased for Credits, skipping the grind in the process. Though it is important to note that Platinum can also be earned by playing the game, those with a ton of disposable income are able to carve out some advantages.

Now, one player has shared a story on social media that should act as a warning to those thinking of spending big on the game’s most exclusive items.

Warframe player’s Primed Chamber mod collection comes back to haunt them

In a post on Reddit, one player relayed the tale of their friend and fellow Warframe player who had a particular obsession with the Primed Chamber Sniper Mod.

When the player was collecting these items, the Primed Chamber mod was one of the most valuable in the game. At the time, it had only been given to players who had ranked in the Top 100 in the Informant Event, or in a few other, very specific circumstances.

By the time they had finished, the player in question had managed to accrue six copies of the mod for a sum that the person recounting the tale names as “several hundred thousand platinum”. Bearing in mind the conversion rate, this could be anything between $10k-$20k. The galling part came when, not long after completing the collection, the mod became available for purchase from Baro Ki’Teer.

Though Baro only appears every two weeks and doesn’t always carry the item, the knock effect that this had on the mod’s value is huge. Understandably, the OP claims that the player in question quit and “never logged in again” after finding out the news.

Though many will have purchased Platinum with their hard-earned money, few will have left with a story as galling as the one above. That said, with some extremely high-value and sought-after items still in the game, there is every chance it could happen again.
