A fully-fledged The Last of Us Part 1 remake is officially in the works following months of rumors and speculation. From its imminent release date to an early look at PS5 gameplay upgrades, here’s everything there is to know.
The original The Last of Us was released on PS3 back in 2013, combining survival horror, cinematic storytelling, and third-person gunplay into one spectacular package. The remastered PS4 version soon followed ahead of a sequel in 2020, though Naughty Dog isn’t stopping there.

As the former is up first, it’s sure to reignite some passion in the fandom once before the following projects are released. Before it comes our way, here’s a full look at all we know about The Last of Us Part 1 remake.

Footage from an early cutscene also showed the updated rendition of Joel in motion. For now, leaks have stuck to the early portion of the game. Though we could see plenty more spill out online in the days to come so if you’re still avoiding spoilers a decade removed from the original, be sure to stay cautious on social media.
Another substantial leak occurred on July 21, 2022, which revealed a hunk of new information about the game.
VGC revealed several clips including a shootout, Joel using one of the game’s workbenches, and also a gunfight in the game’s library section.
There was also, allegedly, a sneak peek at the game’s rumored customization settings with the game’s different frame-rate options being shown: Fidelity Mode, Performance Mode, and VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) capabilities, though the latter is yet to be confirmed since this leaked build hit the web.
