Here’s everything you need to know about the open-world title Star Wars Outlaws, including its release date, trailers, platforms, and more.
Swedish developer Massive Entertainment has taken charge of Ubisoft’s open-world Star Wars game. The studio initially announced its development in early 2021 — under the codename “Project Helix.” Star Wars Outlaws allows you to freely explore the galaxy for the first time in franchise history.
In addition to Star Wars Outlaws, Massive has worked on Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. The studio also helped with Assassin’s Creed: Revelations and Far Cry 3, so your next adventure in a galaxy far, far away is in solid hands.
Star Wars Outlaws release date & platforms
Star Wars Outlaws was released on August 30, 2024. If you pre-ordered the game’s Gold or Ultimate editions, or purchase a Ubisoft+ Premium subscription before launch, you would have gotten 3 days early access from August 27, 2024.
The game is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC via Ubisoft Connect or the Epic Games Store.
On September 25, Ubisoft announced that Star Wars Outlaws would be released on Steam on November 21, 2024.

Star Wars Outlaws received its official World Premiere trailer during the 2023 Xbox Games Showcase event on June 11, 2023.
The 2023 Ubisoft Forward stream on June 12, 2023, featured around ten minutes of gameplay.
At San Diego Comic-Con, Ubisoft unveiled a behind-the-scenes trailer of Star Wars Outlaws that dives into the creation of the game. The six-minute video discussed more information about the title’s characters and the planets players can explore.
Another trailer followed, finally giving us a release date and more details about the story.
Summer Game Fest saw yet another trailer that highlighted further gameplay, including some new mechanics and locations that weren’t shown in other trailers such as what vehicle combat looks like.

The Ubisoft Forward event on June 10, 2024, showcased even more gameplay, giving insight into the story, mechanics, and even how the open world will function in the game. We also were given a glimpse into space combat, and how transitioning from on-foot segments to these vehicular scenarios works.
Story details
Outlaws takes place between The Empire Strikes Back and the Return of the Jedi Star Wars movies. The trailer shows players taking control of protagonist Kay Vess and her Axolotl sidekick – Nix. Join their journey to becoming the galaxy’s most wanted criminals.
Throughout Star Wars Outlaws, you’ll also meet new characters like Jaylen – inspired by Han Solo —also, familiar faces like the Rancor and IG-11 combat droid, as well as iconic series staples like Jabba the Hut.
Speaking about the game, vice president of Lucasfilm Games, Douglas Reilly has stated “With Star Wars Outlaws, we’re excited to deliver the first truly open-world Star Wars game, with an action-adventure story filled with characters and planets both new and well-known to the Star Wars galaxy.”
Star Wars Outlaws gameplay
The 2023 Ubisoft Forward Showcase featured around 10 minutes of Star Wars Outlaws gameplay. The video featured Kay Vess at the forefront while she speedily avoided bounty hunters on her motorcycle. Star Wars Outlaws will also have exhilarating space combat and stealth gameplay.
The devs also teased the ability to choose different dialogue options by “giving the player agency over their own trajectory.” For example, you can increase or decrease your reputation with certain factions.
With the 2024 Ubisoft Forward event, were were able to play three separate story missions, ranging from stealth levels to all-out action. Following that, we played four hours in the open world and came away confident it’s shaping up the be the Star Wars game we’ve always wanted.
As well as Outlaws, we also got new looks at Assassins Creed Shadows, and the Avatar Frontiers of Pandora DLC. Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Gears of War E-Day, and Life is Strange: Double Exposure were also shown off during Summer Game Fest.
