Knowing Shogun Ceanataur’s weakness in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak will give you a huge advantage over this crafty crustacean. After all, beating this gigantic crab will enable you to forge powerful Shogun Ceanataur weapons and armor.
Just like Daimyo Hermitaur, Shogun Ceanataur also returns in the Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak expansion. However, unlike its cousin, this colossal crab is both quicker and far more deadly. If its lightning-fast claw swipes weren’t scary enough, this monster also has the ability to inflict Hunters with Bleed.
When Bleed is active, players will take damage whenever they move and attack, which makes Shogun Ceanataur a particularly tricky adversary. Combine this with its water jet attack, bone-crunching claw swipes, and speedy movements — and you have a recipe for a fierce fight.
Shogun Ceanataur is encountered relatively early in the game, which means Hunters will need to best it in battle if they wish to forge some powerful weapons and armor. Fortunately, our Shogun Ceanataur weakness guide will have you felling this beast in no time.

Avoid using Dragon elemental types as Shogun Ceanataur is completely immune, while it also has a strong resistance to Water. Just like with Daimyo Hermitaur, we recommend focusing your attacks on Shogun Ceanataur’s claws as breaking them will cause the creature to topple over, giving you the opportunity to hit its head.
Lastly, weapons with piercing damage should attack the monster’s shell as once enough damage has been done, it will break, exposing a weak point that can be hit for massive amounts of damage.
Shogun Ceanataur location
Shogun Ceanataur is located in the Flooded Forest and Lava Caverns. It’s important to note that this monster is only available in Master Rank quests. This means Hunters will need to purchase the Sunbreak expansion if they wish to hunt it.
