Payday 3 may be a multiplayer game, but players may still want to play alone. But how exactly do you play solo? Here’s everything you need to know about the new solo mode beta.
For those who were around for Payday 3’s controversial launch, the game’s always online requirement and emphasis on team play meant that playing by yourself could be a little tricky to figure out.
But now, Starbreeze is testing a new solo mode for those who want to play without the thrill of dealing with other players. Here’s everything you need to know about the beta test for Solo mode.
How to play Payday 3 solo mode
To play Payday 3 solo, open up Game Modes in the main menu and hit Solo Mode. This feature was first released as part of the Boys in Blue update, and is currently in the stage of testing.
According to the Boys in Blue update patch notes, Solo Mode currently has these issues:

- Players are able to start a solo mode heist while in a co-op lobby. The fact that the player isn’t available for co-op won’t be communicated to other party members.
- Solo Mode heists will reward double cash rewards. We’ll call this one an incentive to help us test the feature.
- The reward screen will display double the amount of bags actually secured in the reward screen.
- The visual confirmation of skill progression after a heist is missing. XP is still rewarded, but the visual element isn’t displaying.
- Failing a heist will display a “Text Block”-text in place of the infamy progression.
It’s worth noting that this mode is not intended to be a true Offline Mode. Starbreeze is still in the process of developing an offline mode for the future, and as it currently stands you’ll still need to log into the Payday 3 servers before you can access the mode.
Payday 3’s Solo mode hosts various gameplay aspects on your own PC or console, meaning lower performance and other issues may arise during your session. Aside from that, it’ll offer basically all the same features as playing online does. Except for, y’know, other human players.
