Pals have different typings in Palworld, and our type chart can help you be ready for any battle by being aware of all the strengths and weaknesses in the game.
Alongside collecting Pals to work at your base and as Mounts to traverse the world, you’ll also want to use them in battle against bosses and wild creatures in Palworld. Before you get into combat, however, knowing how types work is vital, as you’ll be at an advantage if you’ve got the right kind of Pals on your team for any given fight.
Element chart explained
The above chart includes all nine typings currently in Palworld alongside their particular weakness and resistances.
- The 1/2 icon indicates that it’s weak to that type, and you’ll deal less damage against it.
- ‘2’ on the chart means that your attacks will be Super Effective against a certain element.
As an example of how to use the chart, from the fourth row, you can see that Electric moves will deal a lot of damage to Water Pals but they’re not very effective against Ground.
For more on each of the elements, we’ve got a full rundown of each type in the dedicated sections below:
Fire weaknesses & resistance
In Palworld, Fire is weak against Water but they have advantages over Grass and Ice. This means they’re not only super effective against Grass and Ice but they’ve also got a resistance against those kinds of attacks so will take less damage from them.
So if you’re planning to battle the Legendary Frostillian, or want to get your hands on the grenade launcher-wielding Mossanda, then make sure you’ve got some Fire Pals like Foxparks, Rooby, or Blazamut in your team.
Grass weaknesses & resistance
Grass Pals are weak against Fire but have good resistance when battling Ground elements.
So if you’re keen to add a Digtoise to your collection for Mining duties, bring a strong Grass-type like Lyleen, Broncherry, or Mammorest to make things easier.
Ground weaknesses & resistance
Ground creatures pack a punch against Electric foes but they won’t fare well when battling Grass Pals.
If you plan to take on the first major boss, Zoe, and Grizzbolt, we’d recommend having a sturdy Ground pal like Hangyu or Rushoar.
Electric weaknesses & resistance
As mentioned above, Electric Pals are strong against Water attackers but won’t last long fighting a powerful Ground Pal.
If you’re on the hunt for some of the best Water creatures in the game like Relaxaurus, or Surfent, having an Electric friend with you such as Sparkit, Univolt, or Rayhound is advised.
Water weaknesses & resistance
While some typings have multiple resistances in Palworld, Water is, as you’d expect, exclusively effective against Fire. You’ll want to be careful if you’re up against Electric-types however.

When facing powerful Fire Pals like Kitsun and Incineram, a squad of Water attackers like Jormuntide and Celaray would be the best approach.
Ice weaknesses & resistance
When it comes to Ice Pals in Palworld they’re particularly strong against Dragon but weak against Fire.
Xenogard, Astegon, and Jetragon are some of the best Dragon-hybrid types Pals in the game, so make sure you’ve got a couple of Ice creatures like Cyrolinx and Reindrix ready to face them.
Dragon weaknesses & resistance
Dragons are majestic and intimidating creatures, and when it comes to Palworld, they can make quick work of any Dark-type Pals. However, as mentioned before, they’re extremely resistant to Ice attacks.
Adding mysterious Dark creatures like Daedream and Katress to your collection can be easily done with a tough Dragon like Quivern or Elphidran by your side.
Dark weaknesses & resistance
Dark attackers are especially resistant to Neutral creatures in Palworld but they’re weak to Dragon.
If you’re keen to catch some Neutral Pals like Kingpaca, Paladius, and Nitewing, then make sure you’ve got plenty of Dark Pals with you. We’d particularly recommend Shadowbeak, Frostillian Noct, and Maraith in the later stages of the game.
Neutral weaknesses & resistance
Out of all the different typings in Palworld, Neutral Pals are at the biggest disadvantage as they’re unfortunately not strong against any other types in the game.
You can of course still use Neutral Pals in a fight but they won’t excel against any enemies in particular. They are however weak against Dark attacks so be sure to avoid creatures like Tombat, Leezpunk, and Bellanoir if you’re ever exploring the world with a completely Neutral team.
Will there be more types added in the future?
There’s currently been no confirmation that new elements will be added to Palworld in the future, but new Pals have been introduced in the latest Sakurajima update.
While we haven’t seen any new types yet, there’s always a chance we could see more elements eventually, so if any do get added we’ll be sure to update our chart to reflect them.
That’s everything you need to know about the different Pal elements in Palworld! If you’re jumping into Sakurajima, make sure you know how to get Plasteel, the Ring of Freight, and supply drops.
