Life is Strange: Double Exposure has been confirmed to “respect” both endings of the original game amid concerns from the community.

Life is Strange and Max Caulfield will be returning once again, with the recently unveiled game Double Exposure marking the return of the heroine who many fell in love with in the original.

And while the community freaked out with excitement when the trailer for Life is Strange: Double Exposure first dropped, many also had some concerns about how the follow-up would address the ending of the original game.

In the first Life is Strange, Max is forced to choose between saving her childhood best friend and potential love interest Chloe Price, or saving the residents of Arcadia Bay from a giant tornado that sweeps across the town and destroys everything.

In Life is Strange: True Colors, the fate of Arcadia Bay is mentioned briefly in the Wavelengths DLC, with protagonist Steph Gingrich mourning the loss of her friends.

Following the release of this DLC, many Life is Strange fans speculated this meant the save Arcadia Bay ending was canon as it is the only game in the franchise to reference the original title.

However, in a recent live stream, game director Jonathan Stauder confirmed that the follow-up will “respect” both endings of the original game.

“It was really important for us at Deck Nine that, if we were going to make another Max adventure, the game would have to respect both of those endings and Double Exposure does that very thing,” Stauder began.

The game director then added, “There’s no canon ending in our book to the first game. Double Exposure will respect both endings in Max’s thoughts, her journal, her SMS, her interactions with other characters — what she opts to reveal about her past to her new friends is all reflective of that final choice.”
