Last Epoch’s director, Judd Cobler, has responded to the review bombing the game experienced during its launch, apologizing to players and promising future improvements to backend infrastructure.
Last Epoch’s launch wasn’t the smoothest affair. After servers couldn’t hold up to the pressure of 300,000 concurrent players, users took their grievances to Steam, review-bombing the game on the platform.
Eleventh Hour Games was swift to deploy fixes to restore server stability, since then the game’s been receiving plenty of praise from its new fanbase. Even managing to reach the 39th-highest concurrent player count ever recorded on Steam.
Last Epoch’s elaborate skill trees and dynamic combat seem to have filled a gap in the ARPG space, breathing fresh air into a genre that many fans felt was growing stale. With the game now mid-way through its first week of full launch, Last Epoch’s director, Judd Cobler, addressed the game’s early troubles, and issued some promises to players.
“Steam reviews and sentiment took a heavy hit due to the initial turbulence of online services at launch.” He said, acknowledging the launch troubles in his opening message to players.

Cobler then went on to tell players the team was “committed to regaining that trust,” promising improvements to backend infrastructure to help the online play experience. “We take time to read your reviews and feedback,” he continued, promising the team was taking “swift action” to increase player satisfaction.
Cobler’s message also detailed what fans have to look forward to in the upcoming weeks. Hotfixes for bugs, quality of life improvements, and localization are all on the agenda. But perhaps most exciting is the announcement that Patch 1.1 will “have a heavy emphasis on expanding end-game content”.
Cobler also acknowledges the praise the game has already received, in spite of the difficult launch, expressing the devs resolve to meet the “passion” the team has seen from Last Epoch fans over the past week.
He ended his message with a strong message for the player base: “Last Epoch is here to stay.”
