Brand-new Discord features have arrived on the PlayStation 5, allowing players the chance to chat on one service. With its integration finally here, here’s how to link your accounts and how to use Discord voice chat on your PlayStation 5.
If you’ve always preferred using Discord to speak to your friends then the new feature on the PlayStation 5 will be perfect. As previously seen for Xbox, PlayStation has introduced Discord to its voice features, allowing players the chance to communicate on the software rather than on party chat.
Since February 2, 2023, Discord has been available for PlayStation users, even if it’s only for those part of the beta testing. Now, Sony has dropped a new Discord chat update for PS5 users, making it easier than ever to voice call friends on the pixel-pushing console.
How to link Discord account to the PlayStation 5
- Open settings on your PlayStation.
- Click Users and Accounts.
- Select Linked Services.
- Click on the new Discord ability and it’ll start the linking process.
- Scan the QR code and put the code on the screen.
- The two accounts will now be linked.
Linking your Discord to your PS5 is the first step to using Discord voice chat. After all, you’ll need access to Discord before placing it on your PlayStation. With that in mind, the first thing you’ll need to do is make sure you have an account for both services.
Once those are made, following the above steps will link both of those accounts together. Alternatively, you can also link up your accounts by selecting ‘Game Base’ from the PS5 control center toolbar and navigating to the Discord icon.
After selecting the Discord icon for the first time, you will prompted to link your account in the same process as when going through the console settings. While both methods do the same job, linking accounts straight from Game Base can speed up the linking process.

How to use Discord on your PS5
- Select Game Base from PS5 control center
- Select Discord tab
- Choose the Discord server or DM group you’d like to join.
- Select your preferred voice channel where you’ll be able to see key details such as who is in the group.
Once you’re accounts are linked, voice calling friends individually, or joining the voice channels on your existing Discord servers, is a breeze. You can access your Discord friends, and channels, by selecting the Game Base icon on the PS5 control center.
Here, navigating to and selecting the Discord icon on the left-hand side will reveal the list of all the channels you’re currently a member of. If instead, you want to call a friend directly, selecting ‘Direct Voice Chats’ will reveal all your most recent chat history, the same way as on the desktop app.
