Hideo Kojima has announced a spiritual successor to Metal Gear Solid is in the works with Sony, seemingly codenamed ‘Physint’, targeting the next generation of gaming hardware.
In the first State of Play to kick off 2024, huge things were announced for Sony’s near and long-term future, but especially so for Kojima Productions as they showed off a lengthy trailer for Death Stranding 2.
As if the hype wasn’t big enough for that one title, Kojima came on camera to announce that Kojima Productions is also working on a spiritual successor to Metal Gear Solid in the action-espionage genre he made his name with.
Seemingly codenamed Physint, the game will begin development in earnest at Kojima Productions after the release of Death Stranding 2, which means it will be two years from now until they fully start work on it. Thus, the project is targeting the “next-generation” of gaming hardware, ala, the PS6.
“Two years from now, I will celebrate the 40th anniversary of my game production career. I am confident that this title will be the culmination of my work,” Kojima said of the new project.
As for what we can expect from Physint, Kojima was reticent on details. However, he said it’ll be bringing together “cutting-edge technology and talent from around the world to create it.”

Further revealing that “it is an interactive game, but it is also a movie at the same time, in terms of look, story, theme, cast, acting, fashion, and sound.”
“We hope to transcend the barriers between film and video games,” Kojima ended his appearance in the State of Play broadcast.
And to add another teaser to the close collaboration between Sony and Kojima Productions, Columbia Pictures was also added into the mix at the end of the teaser.
It will be a fair few years before we get any real teaser for Physint, but for now, we know the major names working on it and the general direction it’s going for.
