A new trailer debuted at The Game Awards, and gives us a new look at Dying Light 2’s world.

Gameplay & Monsters

An innovative open-world take on the classic genre, players will be able to explore every little nook and cranny within the new city at their leisure. This is made easier by Aiden’s parkour abilities, which allow players to dodge the pesky undead in style.

Additionally, you’ll be able to join one of the game’s three factions. This new mechanic will allow players to dictate how the game’s plot pans out, and adds an extra dose of replayability as you try out each different group in turn.

But, of course, no Dying Light game is complete without a terrifying roster of monsters. While you dodge bullets during the day, you’ll be taking to the streets in the dead of night when the Infected come out to play. From the screeching Howlers to the creepy Sleeping Beauties, you’ll have your hands full.

Dying Light 2 campaign length

In January 2022, Techland revealed that the length of Dying Light 2 was “at least 500 hours” to fully complete every aspect of the game. This led some fans to speculate that the campaign itself could take around 100 hours to complete, with the additional 400 hours being for side quests and exploration.

This sparked some rigorous debate amongst fans about quality vs quantity in games. However, since then Techland has clarified their position, stating that the game should actually “finish the story + side quests in less than 100 hours.” They also stated that the game’s story/campaign should take around 20 hours to complete.

Since then, Techland has produced a tweet explaining the contradiction, and that Dying Light 2 can take over 500 hours to complete if players choose to “max out” the game.

Players looking to get their value for money will be pleased too, as Dying Light 2’s devs “guarantee” to deliver at least “5 years” worth of new content. This will include “new stories, locations, in-game events” and more over the course of the game’s lifespan.

Dying Light 2 synopsis and main character

Set 20 years after the original Dying Light, players will view the game’s apocalyptic universe through the eyes of Aiden Caldwell, a member of the ominous Outcasts. Out for blood and in search of someone from his past, he’ll stop at nothing to achieve his goals.

It turns out, however, that Caldwell has been infected by the creatures, giving him a plethora of superhuman powers that players will be able to take advantage of. Additionally, he can side with one of Dying Light 2’s three rival factions, dictating how the game plays out.

Dying Light 2 is set in yet another European location simply entitled The City, which Techland boasts is 4 times the size of the flagship title’s Harran.
