Critical Role’s Darrington Press has revealed the upcoming release of the second edition of the acclaimed card game, For the Queen, bringing a complete revamp to much of its gameplay.
When it was originally released, For The Queen was a huge hit among board game and card game players. Many jumped into the title to enjoy its beautiful art, storytelling design, and collaborative nature.
Unfortunately, after being made by designer Alex Roberts at Evil Hat Productions in 2019, it was announced that the first edition would be discontinued in 2023, with Roberts looking for a new publisher to help release its second edition. Now, it’s been revealed that the publisher in question is Critical Role’s Darrington Press.

Announced by Darrington Press, we now know the second edition of the highly acclaimed card storytelling game For The Queen is set to release on May 14, 2024.
The second edition will feature new art, refined prompt cards, and some exciting new cards inspired by the familiar Darrington Press board game, Queen by Midnight. It’s essentially a complete revamp, with only the rules staying the same, so fans of the original and new players can easily jump into the thrilling game.

Essentially, For The Queen is a card-based collaborative storytelling game players become royal confidants who travel with their Queen on a journey. All they need to do is either protect her or plan her demise using key question cards and their deductive skills.
This isn’t the first time Alex Roberts has worked with Darrington Press. Before this release, they previously worked on the popular game, Till the Last Gasp, which is a similar storytelling game focused on epic duels.
As previously mentioned, the second edition of For The Queen will be released via Darrington Press on May 14, 2024, and will hopefully bring a wave of new players to the popular card game.
