CD PROJEKT RED drop fresh details on Cyberpunk 2077’s world design and lore

CD PROJEKT RED

In a recent interview, CD PROJEKT RED revealed new details about Cyberpunk 2077 as the game’s April 2020 release date quickly approaches.

Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most anticipated games to release next year, as players have been waiting since 2013 for it to finally come out.

And while we have gotten several incredible trailers, including the infamous Keanu Reeves announcement at E3 2019, there hasn’t been much detail about the games design – until now.

Much bigger than just Night City

Sitting down with gaming website WCCFtech, CD PROJEKT RED UI Coordinator Alvin Liu revealed that Cyberpunk’s world is bigger than just Night City, and that players can explore the map similar to The Witcher 3. “You’ll be able to go out in the desert of California and view things like power plants, abandoned highways and stuff like that. So you’re not just limited to Night City.”

He also assured players that there will not be any areas gated off in the city, although there will be territories with higher level enemies and NPCs that players might want to avoid.

Cyberpunk 2077 will have dynamic weather

One of the more interesting reveals is that the world of Cyberpunk will have dynamic weather systems, which will include “acid rain” due to the rampant pollution from the city. Inhabitants will scatter to take shelter in these situations.

Liu also talked about the law systems in the game, and like the Witcher 3, if you kill someone out of sight then the law will leave you alone. He also said that “people will not be nice to you if you start killing many people”, as well as adding that there will be certain NPCs that can not be killed due to future missions being tied to them.

Finally, Liu addressed the lore of Cyberpunk. In the source material, Keanu Reeves’ character ‘Johnny Silverhand’ is supposed to be dead by 2077.

He hinted at the possibility of the character being a “digital ghost” as an explanation for him still existing, but didn’t want to give too much away.

While the developer continues to keep many details close to its chest, this new information has us even more excited for the game. We will keep you updated, as more information will continue to trickle out the closer we get to its release date.
