Atomic Heart is a fascinating-looking shooter that looks to reinvent history with its unique timeline. We know plenty of details about this interesting FPS that has been a long time in the making for developers Mundfish.
The world of Atomic Heart is vastly different from what we know in real life as the USSR’s ability to accelerate the use of robotics and advanced engineering in the 1930s helped them to become a powerhouse, win World War 2, and inadvertently unleash malfunctioning horrors on the Soviet union.
This game borrows elements from other notable first-person shooters such as Bioshock and DOOM, but its own twists and spectacular action make it one of the most eye-catching upcoming propositions in gaming.

Atomic Heart release date
Atomic Heart is set to release on February 21, 2023.
The game first entered production in 2018, meaning the Russian studio Mundfish has had a good five years of development on their first-ever project.
What time can you play Atomic Heart?
The game comes out at midnight local time on February 21 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Game Pass, and Xbox Series X|S.
Steam users can access the game early from 6 PM EDT, 11 PM GMT, or 3 PM PST on February 20, 2023.
Atomic Heart gameplay
Like some of the aforementioned shooters we mentioned that Atomic Heart is being compared to, the game features tons of grizzly melee gadgets to take down enemies and they are complemented nicely by a handy arsenal of customizable and upgradable guns that can incinerate and obliterate.
Physical weapons are also backed up by powers that allow the player to use telekinesis or even freeze enemies — there’s lots of diversification when it comes to the game’s combat.
There are also a ton of enemy varieties to use all of this on with giant robot bosses that can roll around very quickly to small hordes of finicky mechanical creatures crowding your space.
Atomic Heart graphics modes
Despite pushing top-notch visuals and intricate enemy designs, Atomic Heart is set to run at a stable frame rate on new-gen hardware. According to the official Mundfish Twitter account, the game will serve up “solid 60FPS” at 4K resolution while in dungeons. When out in the vast world, however, the game will swap to a dynamic 4K resolution while maintaining its 60FPS gameplay.
As for any specific graphics modes or performance options on consoles, we’ll have to wait and see. It’s also unclear just how well the game will run on last-gen hardware as well.
