Amazon was reportedly set to buy Electronic Arts, and in turn add a whole bunch of mammoth franchises to their belt in FIFA, Apex Legends, and many more. However, it appears as if this may have just been a false rumor.
UPDATE: After initial reports that Amazon was preparing an offer to acquire Electronic Arts, the notion has quickly been dismissed with CNBC Now’s David Faber claiming that: “this is not going to happen,” and confirming that Amazon is not going to make a bid for Electronic Arts.
The early indicators are that this was just a rumor, and we’ll update this story if we learn more.
ORIGINAL: According to sources, it appears as if Amazon, a growing force in the digital and gaming world, was set to make a huge statement by buying Electronic Arts AKA EA.
The report came from GLHF who stated that Amazon was going to formally announce an official offer, on August 26, 2022, to acquire the game developer and publisher.
These initial reports have been greatly contradicted though with multiple sources now saying that this breaking story was nothing more than a rumor and Amazon is definitely not planning to submit a bid for EA.

EA has been the talk of the town recently with other huge companies such as Apple and Disney rumored to be interested in acquiring them, but it appeared as if Amazon was going to strike first.
It would’ve meant that Amazon would own some of gaming’s biggest franchises in Apex Legends, FIFA, Madden, Battlefield, and tons more.
This would also have signified yet another bonkers gaming buyout in recent years following Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda in 2020, their transaction in progress with Activision Blizzard, and Sony’s official buyout of Bungie.
Not only that, but it would’ve made sense for Amazon as they not only provide free games to subscribers of their Amazon Prime service, but the company has also been moving into the movie production market too.
Already, Amazon has multiple game franchises lined up for TV including the iconic RPG franchise Fallout as well Sony’s iconic God of War series.
