Blizzard are working on a new IP for the company that will introduce PC and console players to a yet-to-be-revealed survival game.
Activision Blizzard are heading into a new era for the company and so will its portfolio of games, starting with “a journey to a whole new universe.”
Blizzard, known for StarCraft, World of Warcraft, and Diablo, are embarking on a completely new intellectual property. This will be the company’s first major IP since releasing Overwatch back in 2016.
“Blizzard is embarking on our next quest,” the company wrote. “We are going on a journey to a whole new universe, home to a brand-new survival game for PC and console.
“A place full of heroes we have yet to meet, stories yet to be told, and adventures yet to be lived. A vast realm of possibility, waiting to be explored.”
Notably, the company has yet to experiment with the battle royale genre or anything that looks like an action survival title. It’s unclear where Blizzard will take its IP but it sounds like some teams inside already have a basic version to start testing.
“I’ve played many hours of this project with the team,” Blizzard Manager Mike Ybarra said. “I’m incredibly excited about the team’s vision and the brand-new world it presents for players to immerse themselves in together.”

So far, the studio has taken its players across the galaxy in StarCraft to command armies between warring factions, invited fans to the depths of hell in Diablo, and let people explore the reaches of Azeroth in WoW.
We’ve seen titles stretch the boundaries of what the company normally creates but, admittedly, with the use of established characters or worlds like Hearthstone and Heroes of the Storm.
Overwatch was the company’s first modern swerve from its formula of fantasy landscapes. It was met with enormous success at launch and even fostered an esports scene shortly after.
Details of Blizzard’s new game are scarce but the developers are looking to bring on fresh talent as they explore a genre they’ve yet to dip into.
