7 new games to play in July 2024

We’re over halfway through 2024 now and it’s been a huge year for games so far from surprise indie hits like Palworld kicking off the year to Elden Ring‘s highly anticipated Shadow of the Erdtree DLC finally being unleashed.

There are no signs of things slowing down, however, and July is full of some great games. From expansions and live service seasons to the return of a beloved Sports franchise, here are the new games you should check out in July 2024.

New games you need to play in July 2024

Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail 

  • Release date: July 2, 2024
  • Platforms: PS4, PS5, Xbox Series S/X, PC & MacOS

Dawntrial is the seventh expansion in the beloved MMO Final Fantasy XIV, and there’s plenty of new content to sink your teeth into. The exciting new story and vibrant world of Tural to explore should keep the Warrior of Light and their pals busy for countless hours. 

There are also new jobs to try in Dawntrail, the Viper, and Pictomancer. Vipers are dual-wielding Melee DPS warriors with a proficiency for speed and delivering debuffs to enemies. Pictomancers on the other hand are a Magic DPS class that excels at attacking from a distance.

Whether you’re keen to explore the environments, learn both new jobs, or just experience the latest part of the story, FF14 fans won’t want to miss Dawntrail.

Zenless Zone Zero

  • Release date: July 4, 2024
  • Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, iOS, Android, and Cloud devices

The newest game from Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail developer HoYoverse is arriving in July and will bring a futuristic twist to the gacha formula. 

Zenless Zone Zero retains the large character rosters of the team’s previous games but features action combat with explorable dungeons and roguelike gameplay elements.

As the protagonist Belle or Wise (you’ll be able to choose at the start of the game) you’ll set off on an Urban fantasy adventure and help Agents explore hostile dungeons known as Hollows. This is a must-play for anyone who loves HoYoverse’s work. 

The First Descendent 

  • Release date: July 2, 2024
  • Platforms: PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC 

The First Descendent is a brand looter shooter from South Korean developer NEXON. In this action-packed title, you become a Descendant and must fight against invaders for humanity’s survival.

You can either take on missions solo or in co-op with up to 4 friends, and there are a handful of unique characters to choose from. If you’re a fan of Destiny 2 or any other looter shooters, you should definitely check out The First Descendent – especially as it’s free-to-play.

EA Sports College Football 25

  • Release date: July 16, 2024 (early access) / July 19, 2024 (full launch)
  • Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series S/X 

Alongside Madden 25, there’s another Football game set to make a splash in 2024. July marks the return of the beloved EA Sports College Football franchise which has been on hold since NCAA Football 14 was released a decade ago.

EA Sports College Football 25 will include a variety of modes including Ultimate Team where you can build your dream team of players, and the single-player Road to Glory experience where you’ll live the life of a student-athlete and aim to bring home the Heisman Trophy. Road to the College Playoffs will let you represent your favorite team to vie for a National Championship, and you can step into the shoes of a college coach in Dynasty mode. 

This is by far one of the most anticipated sports games of 2024, and it’s just around the corner now.

XDefiant Season 1 

  • Release date: July 2, 2024
  • Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC via Ubisoft Connect

Ubisoft took the FPS genre by storm when their new free-to-play game, XDefiant launched in May, and Season 1 has some fantastic content for fans to dive into. 

There are new weapons to unlock, and a ranked mode to grind through which has been highly anticipated since launch. A Faction and map inspired by Rainbow Six Siege has also been introduced, as well as a Capture the Flag game mode. 

Whether you’ve already racked up tonnes of hours in XDefiant, or you’re a newcomer, Season 1 is an ideal time to jump headfirst into the action.

Anger Foot

  • Release date: July 11, 2024
  • Platforms PC, macOS, Linux

Anger Foot is a colorful new FPS from developers Free Lives and published by Devolver Digital. It’s described as a ‘fast hard bass blast of kicking doors and kicking ass.’ Throughout the game, you’ll be crashing through the caffeine-fuelled fever dream that is Shit City, and unleashing your deadly feet on all kinds of gangsters and anthropomorphic enemies. 

From what the trailers have shown so far, Anger Foot looks vibrant, fast-paced fun that doesn’t take itself too seriously. There’s also promised to be a lot of replayability for those who want to master tackling the levels in different ways

Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn

  • Release date: July 18, 2024
  • Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series S/X, PC

If you’re looking for a new Souls-lite experience, Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn has you covered. This ARPG from A44 Games puts you in control of Nor Vanek, a member of the coalition who has to fight against the Old Gods to save humanity from extinction. 

You’ll have to wield melee weapons and firearms if you want to succeed in Flinklock, though ammo is scarce so make sure you manage it carefully. Nor is joined on her quest by Enki, her trusty fox-like companion who will not only guide you through the world but can also imbue your combat and traversal abilities with magic.

The Gods won’t be easy to defeat and you’ll have to use every skill at your disposal to close the door and save the world.
