Fortnite has continued to dominate the Battle Royale genre with leading player count figures in 2024, all thanks to the Marvel and Chapter 2 Remix seasons, and some packed live events.
Epic’s beloved Battle Royale has developed and maintained a passionate fanbase over the years, with many still playing since its first chapter. Fortnite has also become widely known for its major collaborations and crossovers, which always have caused a surge in interest.
At the end of 2023, Epic asserted its dominance with a throwback-inspired OG season that broke player count records and then the release of Chapter 5 with three groundbreaking new modes only shattered them even more.
Its biggest competition still comes from top Battle Royale titles Apex Legends and Call of Duty’s Warzone. However, it has consistently managed to reign supreme.
Player count in 2024
Fortnite currently averages over 30 million active users per day, according to Active Player.
Epic Games provides live player count numbers from directly within Fortnite, which can be seen under each game mode from the Discover screen in the Lobby menu. However, they don’t often make the overall player numbers public.
Following the release of Chapter 5 Season 4 and Reload, Fortnite gained over 9.1 million players due to the return of the OG island and Marvel characters to the game. However, the Festival, Rocket Racing, and LEGO modes have taken a considerable reduction since the other mainstream modes have gained even more popularity.
Last year’s Season OG throwback shattered records, and this year’s Chapter 2 throwback through the 30-day Remix season also majorly boosted player counts —though not enough to dethrone its predecessor.
Average monthly player count remains strong despite dipping
Here’s a chart breaking down the average player count since July 2024:
December has dipped slightly compared to November numbers but the player count is still extremely high in the last month of 2024.
November saw a significant peak in player engagement, reaching the highest average of 1,750,097 players in the past five months. While this was expected due to the hype surrounding Chapter 2 Remix, it’s still an impressive increase.
This follows August’s success, which saw an average of over 1.6 million players with the launch of Chapter 5 Season 4. The Marvel-themed season kept player counts high until it eventually ended on November 1.
Compared to July and September, October and November saw higher player numbers. However, there was a drop of around 250,000 daily players from August to the end of October, signaling a slight decline in engagement as the season progressed.
November’s peak player count nearly doubled October’s yearly high record

November nearly doubled this year’s previous peak player count set in October by achieving 9,846,962 players at one time. This can be seen in the chart above.
This surge was driven by Fortnite’s live event, which concluded the Marvel-themed Chapter 5 Season 4 and ushered in the highly anticipated Chapter 2 Remix—a shorter, nostalgia-filled throwback season.

The Fortnite Remix: The Prelude event was displayed in-game at the Restored Reels POI and was a live concert that saw Snoop Dogg and Ice Spice perform at Times Square, in New York City.
To close the show, the full Chapter 2 Remix trailer premiered, seamlessly transitioning Fortnite into its scheduled server downtime as Epic prepared for the classic season with a twist.
This was followed by an end-of-season show titled Fortnite Remix: The Finale, honoring Juice WRLD and celebrating his legacy. Any players who attended also received the free Slayer Juice skin.
Fortnite’s player count remains dominant compared to other Battle Royale games
Despite Fortnite being one of the early pioneers in the Battle Royale genre since it was released in 2017, it has continued to be the top game. Even as newer titles emerge and the gaming landscape constantly evolves, it has consistently maintained a dedicated player base.
Using data from Fortnite.gg, we can analyze Fortnite’s performance relative to other prominent Battle Royale and FPS titles using stats from Steam and ActivePlayer.

All-time player count
Over 500 million players have played Fortnite since it was first released in 2017. This figure was last revealed by Statista for registered users up until March 2023 and therefore will be much higher now.
Epic confirmed that in 2020, there were over 350 million registered players on Fortnite. In 2021, the number of users had risen to more than 400 million, and over 350 million in 2022.
What is Fortnite’s peak player count?
Fortnite’s peak player counts are 11,616,374 players at one time and 44.7 million players in one day. The former figure was provided by Fortnite.gg, while the latter was officially confirmed by Epic Games themselves.
The record-breaking over 11 million concurrent players in Fortnite was achieved on December 2, 2023, all thanks to the Big Bang live event which kicked off Chapter 5. This saw Eminem perform and Epic added three new groundbreaking modes of LEGO Fortnite, Rocket Racing, and Fortnite Festival to the game.
Meanwhile, 44.7 million players in a single day was registered by Epic on November 4, 2023, the day after the viral throwback Season OG launched.
Is Fortnite dying?
No, Fortnite is not dying. The end of 2023 caused Epic Games to smash several player count records and despite not peaking as high as last year so far, it has continued to garner millions of active players every day.
Chapter 5 added various new content for players, with the biggest success of the year so far being the Marvel-themed Season 4. After it launched, Fortnite achieved its highest peak in 2024 so far with 5,641,544 players. It’s therefore safe to say that Fortnite is far from dying anytime soon.
All their modes including Battle Royale, Ranked, Reload, Creative, Festival, Rocket Racing, and LEGO Fortnite are continuing to be developed as we lean closer to the end of the year. Taking this into consideration, it will be certainly interesting to see if they can set further records this year and how they will impact the game.
