Fortnite Save the World Could Become Free-to-Play Very Soon

Fortnite’s “Save the World” mode could become free-to-play before the end of Season 5, according to a new leak.

The popular, and usually accurate, Fortnite data mining and leaking account @FNBRLeaks on Twitter broke the news, saying “Save the World MAY become free this season”.

No more information was shared and a follow-up Tweet from the same account simply told followers to “come back to this in a week or two”.

Season 5 in Fortnite is expected to end some time between mid and late September, which means that players could be getting their hands on a free version of Save the World within a month.

Save the World was the original Fortnite mode when the game was released in July of 2017. The incredibly popular Fortnite: Battle Royale didn’t arrive until September of the same year.

While the battle royale mode is completely free to play, Save the World has always required an investment of around 30 to 40 dollars.

Save the World is a co-op survival game. 98% of the world’s population has been wiped out by the arrival of “The Storm” and players must fight against AI-controlled zombie-like creatures called husks in order to survive.

Described by Epic’s Tim Sweeney as “Minecraft meets Left 4 Dead”, the game makes players responsible for commanding a base, constructing and maintaining “storm shields”, finding and protecting survivors and attempting to save the world from total destruction.

Save the World going free-to-play would come as a surprise to many as Epic Games has never shown any signs of wanting to make such a move in the past.

Players that have already purchased Save the World are likely to expect some form of reward if the game does become free. Owners of the founder’s pack have previously been presented with the exclusive Warpaint and Rose Team Leader outfits.
