Fortnite features a lot of skins, and some are rarer than others. These are the rarest skins in the battle royale in August 2024.
Epic Games’ Fortnite is incredibly popular and is largely known for the sheer volume of collabs and crossovers it’s had. These collaborations usually result in new skins coming to the game for players to buy, or occasionally unlock for free.
Some skins are much more coveted than others, however, and we’ve got a breakdown of the 15 rarest right now.
Rarest Fortnite skin
As of August 2024, the rarest skin in Fortnite is tied between the Aerial Assault Trooper and the Renegade Raider.
Having made their last (and only) appearances during the first-ever season of Fortnite, these are two skins that only the most dedicated, long-term players are likely to own.
Top 15 rarest skins in 2024
From the Royale Bomber to Double Helix and beyond — here are the top 15 rarest skins you’re unlikely to see throughout your matches in Fortnite.
1. Aerial Assault Trooper / Renegade Raider
The Aerial Assault Trooper and Renegade Raider are the rarest skins in Fortnite. Both predated the iconic Battle Pass and were only available to purchase from the item shop in Chapter 1 Season 1.
Both skins cost 1,200 V-Bucks, with players having to reach Level 15 and 20 respectively to buy them.
If you’re wearing either skin during a match, it’s clear to other players that you’re an OG looper in the game.
2. Reflex
The Reflex outfit could be obtained by redeeming a code for the GeForce Fortnite Bundle by purchasing an eligible NVIDIA GeForce graphics card around December 2018. However, the skin was accidentally released in the Item Shop for 1,200 V-Bucks in March 2019 and has since only appeared again twice.
With the accidental release, Epic issued an apology in the form of a free Stealth Reflex outfit which was released as part of the NVIDIA bundle in the following season. However, only those who had received Reflex by redeeming a code got the free skin.
3. Rogue Agent
Released in Chapter 1 Season 3, Rogue Agent was part of the Rogue Agent Starter Pack that was released in 2018 in the Fortnite Item Shop for $4.99. The starter pack was in the Item Shop for 77 days in a row before it was never released again.
It was also the only starter pack outfit in Chapter 1 that players could purchase for real-world money instead of V-Bucks.
4. Galaxy
When Epic Games launched Fortnite for mobile, players with Samsung Galaxy devices were the first to be invited to test it out. This partnership continued for a while, with quite a few exclusive cosmetics tied to new Samsung products – but none have been more in demand than the epic Galaxy skin.
This elusive skin was only available for players who purchased a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 or a Samsung Galaxy Tab S4, but it was later replaced by the Glow skin in 2019 and there’s no way to get it anymore.
5. World Warrior
First released back in 2019 during the first Fortnite World Cup, the extremely rare World Warrior skin has now been completely absent from the item store since July 2019.
Since this was the only time that a Fortnite World Cup ever happened, the World Warrior skin did not return to the item shop, even during the recent FNCS tournaments.
Apart from this, the Fishstick skin also received a World Cup selectable style which is quite common and is seen more often in the Item Shop. Now players can only hope it returns to the shop in the future like they’re manifesting for yet another Fortnite World Cup.
6. Black Knight
Black Knight was only available for players who maxed out Fortnite’s first-ever Battle Pass in Chapter 1 Season 2. This meant players had to not only purchase the Battle Pass but also reach Level 70, so the number of people who own this skin is ultimately very small.
That requirement might not be as high as the modern Battle Passes, which have 100 levels of cosmetics to work through, but this was back in 2017 when the player base was much smaller.
7. Double Helix
Double Helix was another skin that Fortnite fans could only get by purchasing an expensive device. This one was included with a limited-edition Nintendo Switch x Fortnite bundle, which also gave players a DLC code for matching cosmetics and 1,000 V-Bucks.

Aside from the high cost of purchasing the console, this Nintendo Switch x Fortnite bundle isn’t actually available to purchase from most retailers anymore, so if you do want it you’ll have to strike it lucky and find one available from a third-party seller – and it certainly won’t come cheap if you do.
8. Honor Guard
If you want to get your hands on the Honor Guard skin, there’s some bad news, as it’s only available for those who purchase the Honor View 20 smartphone, making it one of the most expensive skins in Fortnite history.
It’s still available to get, but the incredibly high entry cost coupled with the fact that many people are loyal to their favorite brands like Apple and Samsung means the Honor Guard is automatically one of the rarest skins in Fortnite. Besides, we’ve never seen it in a Battle Royale match… have you?
9. Royale Bomber
Another skin you’re unlikely to see in Fortnite is the Royale Bomber. The skin was first available to get as part of a PlayStation 4 x Fortnite bundle back in 2018, and later as part of a DualShock 4 controller bundle.
It’s still available to find if you look hard enough, but it definitely won’t come cheap, and arguably isn’t worth it anyway as it’s not a very interesting skin when compared to the best skins that Fortnite has on offer in 2024.
10. The Reaper
OG players will definitely remember The Reaper, who was the reward for maxing out the Chapter 1 Season 3 Battle Pass at Level 100. The skin has been a running joke in the Fortnite community, as it was quite clearly based on Keanu Reeves’ character John Wick.
Then things got strange when, in 2019, Epic Games introduced an official John Wick skin to Fortnite. This means there are two almost identical skins in the game, but while the John Wick skin has returned to the Item Shop on multiple occasions and is quite common, The Reaper remains very rare.
11. Eon
The Eon Skin was first available only as part of a promotional bundle for the Xbox One S console, and it came with a digital code that allowed users to redeem the skin and accompanying cosmetics in Fortnite. The bundle was a limited-time deal, which added to its desirability and rarity within the Fortnite community.
The Eon bundle was made available exclusively to Xbox One S owners as of September 27, 2018. The bundle which costs $249.99 and includes an Eon skin, the Xbox console, 2000 V-Bucks, a glider, and a pickaxe, is among the most expensive in the Fortnite community.
Ever since then, Xbox has stopped running the promotion and scalpers are selling the skin codes online for over $1,000 each.
12. Shaman
Shaman is a skin originally released in Season 8 as part of the Moonbone Set. The skin has since appeared in 5 item shops although it hasn’t been seen in the battle royale shop since December 2019.
If you see any Shaman’s running around the island you’ll know those players have been invested in Fortnite for a good while.
13. Cole
Cole was first made available in May 2019. It’s only been in 3 Item Shops since its release with the last being in December 2019.
While it only cost 800 V-Bucks to get hold of Cole when he was available, he’s definitely one of the rarer skins in the game these days.
14. Trench Raider
Trench Raider is a Rare skin that was first released in Chapter 2 Season 1.
It was released as part of the Fathoms Deep Set and was available in the Item Shop for 1,200 V-Bucks. The skin made another appearance in January 2020 but has only been available to purchase twice in the battle royale.
15. Travis Scott
Travis Scott’s skin is the rarest Icon Series outfit to ever appear in Fortnite. The outfit was first released in 2020 ahead of the artist’s Astronomical in-game event in Chapter 2 Season 2.
While the event is one of the most played live events in Fortnite history, the popularity and rarity of the artist’s cosmetic skin remains the same. Only to be seen in six Item Shop rotations, Travis Scott has not returned to the in-game shop since April 2020.
Some speculate this is due to the tragedy that occurred at one of Travis’ concerts which forced Epic’s hand to not release the skin again despite the players’ demands.
