McDonald’s is teaming up with the Despicable Me franchise to release three new exciting products that customers can indulge in.

The new Despicable Me movie marks the fourth installment in the franchise. The movie will debut in cinemas on July 12, and to build anticipation, McDonald’s has teamed up with the beloved Minions to create two new limited-edition desserts, as well as a new drink.

However, there’s some bad news for customers residing in the US, as this promotion is only running in Australia. That’s right, you might have to hop on a plane if you want to sample any of these Minion-themed goodies.

The new items are back by popular demand, after McDonald’s released a series of banana-flavored desserts to mark the celebration of the previous Despicable Me movie. The new menu items include:

  • Banana Thickshake – A super thick and incredibly indulgent shake that is made with creamy, fresh milk and banana-flavored syrup.
  • Banana Caramel Pie – Features crisp, golden pastry filled with creamy banana custard and caramel sauce.
  • Banana Caramel McFlurry – Crisp pastry pieces filled with a creamy banana custard and caramel sauce on a bed of Vanilla or Chocolate Soft Serve, topped with an extra drizzle of caramel sauce.

As well as this, McDonald’s is also dropping a Minion-themed Happy Meal box for a limited time. This will give customers the choice of either an activity book with sneak peeks into the new movie or a toy.

Each of the new menu items and Happy Meal will come complete in Minion packaging, in keeping with the whole theme.

“We’re so excited to collaborate with Illumination’s Despicable Me franchise for what is certain to be one of the biggest blockbuster movies of the year. Since they first appeared in 2010’s Despicable Me, the Minions have become global icons, infiltrating pop culture in a meaningful way,” Nichole Tsiros, Senior Brand Manager for McDonald’s Australia, said.

“Like the Minions themselves, our Happy Meals are playful and nostalgic with inter-generational appeal. With our Despicable Me 4 Happy Meal, we’re taking that fun, feel-good experience to the next level by offering moments of connection for the entire family, with a range of menu items for the small and big kids.”
