Amazon has revealed its pre-order exclusive DualSense skin for the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and its design has left fans underwhelmed.

The original Final Fantasy VII existed long before DLC was a thing, so it was spared from the onslaught of pre-order bonuses that its remake would receive over twenty years later.

Final Fantasy VII Remake was big on digital pre-order bonuses, with precious Summon Materia offered to those who put money down early. There were also weapons and items available for characters to deck themselves out for their initial Mako Reactor mission.

The launch of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is fast-approaching, and different retailers have their own incentives for purchasing the game with them. This includes Amazon, including a physical item that makes the most of the game’s PS5 exclusivity.

“I would’ve much preferred an actual custom controller, with maybe the iconic meteor logo on the touchpad,” one user wrote, “Maybe have the rest of the controller in black with green designs on it to symbolize the Lifestream. But this? I’ll pass.”

“All controller skins are lack luster imo. Your hands cover the controller most of the time.” Another user wrote, “Even appreciatively, how you gonna stare at your controllers resting on the shelf?”

“They’re really dumb imo, just like that preorder lanyard that came with some FFVII Remake order. Remember that? Bizarre. A lanyard.”

While another stated, “All the pre-orders are disappointing. I went with the hat because I can at least decorate it with patches and pins.”

Unlike proper controller shells made of gel-like plastic, controller skins tend to get dirty and wear off over time. As such, the ugly Final Fantasy VII Rebirth controller skin is only going to get worse over time, making it an easy skip for people looking to pre-order the game.
