Final Fantasy XIV producer, Naoki Yoshida, has revealed a tidbit about what players can expect from the new Relic Weapons in Dawntrail.

Final Fantasy XIV’s next expansion, Dawntrail, is set to drop sometime this summer. The next installment of the MMO brings with it an increased level cap, a new playable race, and a whole new continent to explore.

Along with all the fresh content, Dawntrail will also bring about the return of many core features from FFXIV’s gameplay, including the game’s Relic Weapon quests.

Relic Weapons have been around since A Real Reborn, they’re weapons unique to each expansion that can be upgraded to provide valuable stat boosts in endgame content. They also have their own series of special side quests built around them.

Some have complained the upgrade process for Endwalker’s Mandeville Relic Weapons is too easy.

In a recent interview with UK’s Play Magazine, Yoshida spoke about the team’s plans for Relic Weapons in Dawntrail, providing a little insight into their development process, and dropping a small hint about what players can expect to see when Relic Weapons arrive in the upcoming expansion.

“I do appreciate that some people do say that it’s too easy in Endwalker,” he said, addressing player feedback about the Relic Weapon quest and upgrade method in the current expansion.

Some players have complained about Endwalker’s Relic Weapons, with many feeling the requirements to unlock them are too easily obtainable.

Yoshida said he recognized why some older players hold those feelings about the current Manderville Relic Weapon quest line, acknowledging that it’s great for veteran players to “reminisce” about the difficulty involved in completing past Relic Weapons

It seems Yoshida has taken this feedback from the community on board.

“I’m not going to make it exactly the same as it was originally,” he told Play. “But I do appreciate that it gives a sense of reward to the players”

He went on to add that the team was proceeding with the planning stages, but Relic Weapons “will have various routes in place in terms of the methods to enhance the weapons.”
