Why was Boateng given a Flashback SBC?

Jerome Boateng has been bestowed this SBC upgrade to celebrate his role in Bayern’s treble winning season in 2012/13. The German champions claimed the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League, all in the same year.

The year was a series of firsts for the young German star who had departed Manchester City just a year before. He scored his first Bundesliga goal, and lifted his home league’s trophy for the first of seven consecutive times.

In total, the now-31-year-old made 40 appearances for the club in their famous treble run, 26 of which came in the league. As well as his goal against Fortuna Dusseldorf, he also netted against FC Nürnberg in a 5–0 rout.
