When is FIFA 22 TOTY coming out?

Now that the full team has been announced, the TOTY event will kick off on Friday, January 21, 2021. The long-awaited cards will hit packs at 6 PM GMT.

When is TOTY in packs? FIFA 22 promo explained

Team of the Year works a little differently from other promos in FIFA 22, as the cards included will stagger out into FUT packs, similar to how nominees were announced.

This means that the FIFA 22 TOTY will be announced on that Friday – as expected – but players will be available in stages. For example, attackers may be released into packs first, then midfielders, etc. This is in contrast to Team of the Season, for example, where the entire XI will be revealed and put into packs on that very same day.

The schedule for releases has not yet been confirmed. Once this has been done, we will update this article.

FIFA 22 TOTY cards

The design of the Team of the Year cards has been shown off in glimpses. Until now, we have had to settle for just nominee versions – which are standard (and very similar each year).

For a flash at the complete version, though, check out the official EA SPORTS FIFA reveal for the promo. It can be seen with a gold border.

A more complete version was presented (in mini form) during a giveaway tweet.

FIFA 22 Team of the Year – SBC & Objective leaks

Team of the Year will include some Squad Building Challenges and Objectives, though fans will have to wait for the first wave of cards (most popular, most voted for) to roll into packs before any additional content follows.

The week starting January 24 should include some SBC and Objectives content around TOTY. So far, there have been some strong leaks and unconfirmed reports of EA dropping some absolute fire SBCs around, and during, the promotion.

One of the game’s most notorious leakers @FutSheriff has supposedly managed to uncover some SBCs that could potentially bankrupt players before we even get to TOTY! They have said they do not know the exact days they are coming, however, and it could be before TOTY, or during.

Here are the leaked SBCs according to FUTSheriff:

  • Hero Player Pick
  • 11x 81+ Attackers
  • 11x 81+ Midfielders
  • 11x 81+ Defenders
  • 3x 85+ Attackers
  • 3x 85+ Midfielders
  • 3×85+ Defenders

The Hero Player Pick will be interesting with players scrambling to see if they can grab themself the ever-popular Ginola and Pele cards. Also, the packs centered around each position will be very tempting as players look to store them and increase their chances of securing a TOTY.

Reaction to TOTY announcement

When there are so many players to fill only 11 precious positions, there is always bound to be disagreements. Unsurprisingly, some of the FIFA 22 TOTY selections have become a bone of contention for the community with some selections raising eyebrows.

One of the truly shocking omissions that has been echoed by players is Mohamed Salah. The Liverpool forward had a solid first half of the year in a struggling Liverpool team, and absolutely tore up England and Europe towards the end of 2021.

Here’s a handful of comments and Tweets regarding this decision:

  • “Salah robbed”
  • “Salah instead of Mbappe and Lewandowski 99”
  • “I’m so p*ssed that Salah isn’t in there”
  • “How’s there 5 PSG players and no Salah?”

The inclusion of so many PSG players has caused an uproar, especially given that PSG didn’t win either the Champions League or even their own domestic league. There’s also an argument that Kevin De Bruyne has been included based on past reputation. Truth be told, KDB has missed a lot of 2021 through injury and hasn’t been the star for Manchester City that he’s been in recent years.

Users made their opinions clear on De Bruyne’s position in the team:

  • “De Bruyne, lmfao”
  • “Man didn’t play for 9/12 months”
  • “Mans living off his reputation for the past 2-3 years?”
  • “Kevin De Bruyne should be nowhere near this team”

Once FIFA 22’s Team of the Year is live we’re sure everyone is going to be delighted if they manage to pack one of these incredibly rare and sought-after TOTY cards.
