YouTube’s list of celebrity creators continues to grow, as ‘High School Musical’ star and A-List actor Zac Efron has made a surprising debut on the platform.

Efron uploaded his very first vlog to the website on March 30 using YouTube’s ‘Premier’ streaming feature, where he spent 96 hours in a desert to “unplug” from society.
In the vlog, Zac and crew took on a series of fun activities, including flyboarding, hiking, and good, old fashioned outdoor cooking.

The vlog appears to be the first in a series titled, ‘Off the Grid,’ suggesting that other such traveling videos and “unplugged” experiences are to come soon after.
In fact, the description of Efron’s vlog teased a weekly upload schedule; although the Premier archive isn’t currently available, Efron even answered fan questions ahead of the video’s release, further cementing social media’s unique ability to engage with an audience.

Efron isn’t the first celebrity to have taken YouTube by storm, either; the actor follows in the footsteps of ‘Fresh Prince’s’ Will Smith, who uploaded his first vlog to the platform in December of 2017.

Smith made further waves on the platform with his viral bungee jumping video in September 2018, where he jumped out of a helicopter over the Grand Canyon in an effort to face his biggest fear.
Actor and comedian Jack Black likewise made a splash on the site shortly thereafter, with his now-famous ‘JablinskiGames’ channel inspired by his son, which already boasts over four million subscribers as of March 30.
Efron’s YouTube debut follows his controversial role in upcoming film ‘Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile,’ which chronicles the crimes of serial killer Ted Bundy from the perspective of his girlfriend.
Zac’s role in the film caused a stir across the online space, with many taking issue that filmmakers had cast the good-looking actor for the role – with others arguing that the film shouldn’t have ever been made in the first place, fearing that it could glorify and even inspire future serial murderers.
While Efron has yet to Tweet out more information regarding his newfound hobby, fans can expect more content from the actor on a weekly basis in the near future.
