TikTok drafts: How to save, edit, and delete drafts on TikTok

TikTok‘s popular drafts feature makes it easy for creators to edit and preview their content prior to posting. This allows creators to work on their videos in stages, before sharing them with the world.

Here’s everything you need to know if you want to start using the draft feature on TikTok.

How to create a TikTok draft

  1. Open TikTok.
  2. Press the plus button to open the camera screen.
  3. Select a length for your video.
  4. Film something using the red button or upload a video from your gallery.
  5. Tap the red tick, then ‘next’ after previewing your clip.
  6. Click the ‘Drafts’ button in the bottom left to save it as a draft.

Once you’ve saved your video, your draft will appear in a dedicated folder at the top of your profile page.

How to edit a TikTok draft

Once you’ve saved your draft, you’re able to go in and edit it or add to it at any time.

  1. Go to your profile page, and tap on the ‘Drafts’ folder.
  2. Tap on the draft you want to edit to open it.
  3. If you want to edit the video itself, click the back button in the top left corner, then ‘Continue recording.’ From here you’re able to add new clips, music, filters, and more. Once you’re happy with it, click the red tick to add any sticker or captions, or to adjust your clips.
  4. Click ‘Next’ again. Here, you’re able to edit privacy details, hashtags, and the thumbnail of the video.
  5. To save it as a draft again, select the ‘Drafts’ button, and to post it to your profile, select the ‘Post’ button.

How to save TikTok drafts to camera roll

You may find that after filming a draft, you’d like to keep the footage that you filmed, but not necessarily post it. Fortunately, there is now a direct option to save drafts to your camera roll.

  1. Open your drafts folder, and select the video you want to save.
  2. Click ‘Next’ to head to the options.
  3. Press the save button in the top right corner.
  4. Check your camera roll, and your video should be there.

How to delete drafts on TikTok

It’s easy to start collecting a huge number of drafts if you continue to film videos without posting them, which could take up space on your phone. Fortunately, deleting drafts on TikTok is simple.

  1. Go to the Drafts tab on your profile page.
  2. Tap ‘Select’ in the top right corner.
  3. Select the videos you want to delete.
  4. Tap ‘Delete’ at the bottom of the screen. Press delete again on the pop-up to confirm.

It’s also worth noting that if you decide to uninstall TikTok, all of your saved drafts will get deleted.

While published TikTok videos can be recovered from the ‘recently deleted’ folder, drafts are unrecoverable so we recommend backing any drafts up if you plan on uninstalling the TikTok just to be safe.

Can other users see your TikTok drafts?

Other TikTok users cannot see your TikTok drafts. As it stands, only you can see your TikTok drafts as they are stored locally on your phone, or other device, rather than on TikTok’s servers.
