Having surpassed 100 million subscribers on his main channel, PewDiePie became the first individual YouTuber to reach such a milestone. Unfortunately, another channel beat him to the 100 million mark, as Indian record label and production company T-Series won the race.
Still, PewDiePie remains the undisputed king of the platform, and has proven that his audience is not only large but loyal. His videos, almost regardless of their content, attract tens of millions of views, and even though he made the somewhat risky transition to Minecraft, there was no slump in viewers.
In fact, Minecraft helped his channel grow faster, as he was more frequently featured on YouTube’s trending page for gaming. And 2019 was a great year for him outside of YouTube, too, as he finally married his longtime partner Marzia in August.
He has also attracted some big-name celebrities on his channel, including Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, whose appearance on PewDiePie’s ‘Meme Review’ show back in February attracted almost 25 million views.
2020 is set to be another big year for the Swede, as he is moving to Japan and will no doubt aim to hit another major milestone on his channel.
