After a clip surfaced of Joe Rogan visiting Tom Green’s web show in 2007, the UFC commentator revealed how the MTV star inspired him to make his own podcast.
Joe Rogan hosts one of the most popular podcasts in the world, with millions of subscribers tuning in each week on YouTube alone. He’s also the face of UFC as one of the organization’s main commentators, making him an entertainment juggernaut.
However on April 12, the comedian opened up on Twitter about his humble beginnings and explained how it was actually Canadian actor Tom Green that inspired him in 2007 to make the wildly successful show he has today.

Tom Green exploded in popularity in the 90s, and was an icon from the MTV era. However it was his web show which debuted in 2006 that was truly groundbreaking. The actor posted a video from it on his Instagram, and the clip featured Joe Rogan visiting his set in 2007.
The UFC commentator was blown away by the internet-based format at the time, and told the host, “You need to just keep doing this. We need to figure out how you make money from this.” The Canadian included a caption praising his guest’s success.
“In 2007 I invited Joe Rogan to my streaming web TV show live from my living room. What transpired was a prophetic conversation about the future of broadcasting. All of which has come true on Joe’s revolutionary podcast,” it read.

Rogan reacted to the Instagram post on his Twitter account, and returned the praise back by revealing to his followers that Tom Green got him thinking about making a podcast all those years ago.
“Back in 2007 Tom Green turned his house into an internet broadcast studio and did a talk show in his living room. It was amazing, and when I was a guest it got my wheels spinning about doing something like it…” he tweeted.

His followers replied to the post, begging the comedian to invite Green on to his show so they could re-connect over the conversation they had almost 13 years ago.
It remains to be seen if Rogan will invite Tom Green to his own show, but it would make for an interesting conversation. The two comedians have become pioneers in the medium.
If nothing else, the clip is a fascinating snapshot in time as the seeds were planted for what would go on to become one of the most successful podcasts of all time.
