Doug ‘Censor’ Martin made waves after breaking up with his girlfriend to focus on competitive Call of Duty in 2018 – and he’s following up the split with a major statement on the matter.

Censor retweeted an article from UK news site The Daily Star on April 3, which claimed that young men are having less sex in order to focus on gaming.

“My parents were concerned because I didn’t kiss a girl throughout high school,” Censor said of the article. “To me, it was more important to be #1 in the world in CoD, that opportunity wouldn’t always be there. Glad I made that decision.”

He wasn’t finished there; he followed up his story with a message to other aspiring pros, advising they focus on their dreams instead of worrying about their love life.

“Moral of the story: make your career your priority and let everything else fall into place,” he continued. “It will work itself out, and you’ll definitely be pleased with the outcome.”

While Censor’s Tweet was widely met with encouragement, others took the opportunity to poke fun at his statement, with some noting that players can find a healthy balance between romance and their career.

“You’re not seeing it the way it was intended,” Censor replied to one critic. “Moral of the Tweet: don’t put girls over your career. Focus on your career and let the women come to you.”

Censor even claimed that merely speaking with a girl would have distracted him from his goal – although he later agreed that players shouldn’t completely shun interactions with the opposite sex.

The Star’s article contained a statement from San Diego State University psychology professor Jean Twenge, who claimed that men under 30 could be abstaining from sex due to “streaming video, social media, console games.”

“[There are] more things to do at 10 o’clock at night than there were 20 years ago,” Twenge said of the development.

She likewise noted a potential cause for this decrease in sex could be that many millennials don’t have a live-in partner. The Star included data from The Washington Post that showed 28% of young men have abstained for a year.

Censor infamously broke things off with his girlfriend, Mexican weathercaster and model Yanet Garcia, in summer of 2018 to focus on Call of Duty; however, Censor later put off competitive gaming in favor of content creation, now uploading videos to YouTube and streaming on Twitch.
