Controversial YouTuber Tana Mongeau may have gone one step too far this time in the eyes of YouTube HQ, as she has seemingly lost verification status on her YouTube channel.
With 5.45 million subscribers, Tana Mongeau is one the biggest names on YouTube right now. Known originally for her comedic ‘storytime’ videos, the creator is now mostly known for her on-off relationship (and live-streamed wedding) with fellow influencer Jake Paul, her disastrous self-titled festival ‘TanaCon’ and for being embroiled in various other controversies.
While being sidelined by platforms isn’t new to Mongeau – she describes herself in her YouTube bio as a “struggling demonetized influencer” – many fans were surprised to find that her YouTube channel had seemingly lost its verification status in recent days.
According to Def Noodles on Twitter, Tana’s verification tick has been removed from her channel entirely.

For comparison, this is how Pewdiepie’s channel appears on desktop and mobile. Verification only appears on desktop. For Tana, it doesn’t appear on desktop or mobile. pic.twitter.com/ZymjxdMMzm

According to DefNoodles, the deverification of Mongeau’s YouTube channel can be problematic for her career because YouTube tends to prioritize content from verified sources in algorithm placement.
This then means that without verification, Mongeau’s content will be greatly impacted in terms of how they rank on YouTube’s algorithms.

Fans had a mixed response to Mongeau’s apparent deverification. Some fans were confused, with one questioning why other problematic stars like Jake Paul, Jeffree Star, Trish Paytas remain verified.
YouTubers are verified? If that is true, why is Logan Paul, Jeffree Star, Trish Paytas still verified?

Why did Tana Mongeau’s channel get unverified?
There is a lot of speculation surrounding YouTube’s decision to verify Mongeau’s YouTube channel. Many fans are suggesting that the reason she was deverified wasn’t based on her actions, but on more of a technicality. Namely, that she changed her YouTube name to Tana Paul following her marriage before changing it back to Tana Mongeau after the marriage broke down.
It’s because she changed her name to Tana Paul and back to Tana Mongeau. I’m pretty sure it hasn’t been verified since she changed it.

Alternatively, it is plausible that her unverification is the result of her latest controversy, which many have suggested is a possible breach of US electoral law. In October, Mongeau promised fans a ‘reward’ if they sent her proof they voted for Joe Biden in the US Elections.
However, in sixteen US states, it is a crime to share a photo of who you vote for. Her pledge to send photos to fans who vote for Biden is also argued to be a breach of electoral laws on vote buying, which is also illegal in 13 US states.
Given Mongeau’s controversial past, it is near-impossible to say the reason behind her unverification. Mongeau is yet to respond to the news.
