The popular YouTuber announced that he is taking an extended leave of absence starting on March 12, and revealed some of the personal struggles he’s faced that have led to his decision.
One of YouTube’s most popular creators at over 2.5 million subs on his main channel, and part of the recently formed collective Lunch Club, Carson spoke candidly on Twitter about “recent personal events” that have had an effect on him.
Citing the need to take an indefinite break, Carson said he wanted to “focus on making himself a better person,” and has recently started both taking medication for depression and speaking to a counselor.
For those concerned about me, I recently started antidepressants and have been on a whirlwind of emotion and pain in my personal life. I recently started seeing a counselor a few weeks ago.

Due to the “whirlwind of emotion and pain” in his personal life, Carson says that he currently can’t handle the responsibility of his current job.
While his videos still perform well, with the lowest in recent memory still cracking 1 million views and others averaging 4 million or more, his most recent uploads have been generally longer but posted more infrequently.
Several big names in YouTube and streaming wished Carson well on the next step of his journey, including comedian Gus Johnson, animator Ross O’Donovan, and YouTuber Jacksepticeye.

Carson is known for creating videos on a wide range of silly subjects, including strange Discord interactions, other weird channels on YouTube, cursed images, and three separate uploads featuring only weird videos of toilets.
He also streams regularly on Twitch at CallMeCarsonLive, and has a popular and robust Discord server.
According to his channel, he left college where he was studying Media Communication in September of 2018 to become a full-time YouTuber and Twitch streamer. His upload rate quickly increased after he made that decision.
Carson isn’t the only massive YouTuber who has taken extensive time off from the platform: One of the site’s biggest stars in Felix ‘Pewdiepie’ Kjellberg returned in February after a month-long hiatus, claiming that he needed to take a break even though he didn’t really want to.
However, Carson’s statements indicate that his time off is needed for more than just slowing down his channel, so it may be longer until he makes a return. We wish him well in whatever he chooses to do next.
